While some DLC expansions for games tend to be self-contained stories independent of the main story of the base game, that is not the case for Horizon Forbidden West and its Burning Shores expansion. In fact, players cannot start the DLC until they have completed the main story quests up to and including 'Singularity'.

Once players have purchased Burning Shores and loaded up Horizon Foribdden West, they will get a call from Sylens that starts the main quests of Burning Shores. Here is what players can expect once they are on their way to the Burning Shores in the main quest 'To the Burning Shores'.

Deal With the Machines

After meeting with Sylens, a cutscene will play as Aloy travels to the Burning Shores. It isn't long before she comes under attack and makes a rough landing. Before speaking with Seyka, deal with the machines. Once the machines have been destroyed, talk to Seyka to trigger a cutscene.

Follow Seyka

It isn't long before Aloy and Seyka realize that they have a common goal of reaching the tower protected by the Zenith weapon. Seyka has a skiff nearby and is willing to take Aloy to her people at Fleet's End. Follow Seyka to reach the skiff. Once on the skiff, there isn't much for players to do other than listen to the dialogue and take in the scenery. Upon arriving at Fleet's End, both Seyka and Aloy do not get a warm welcome. Despite this, they are allowed to meet with the leader of the settlement.

Rendezvous with Seyka

After the cutscene ends, Seyka will be waiting on the other side of a nearby bridge. Before going any further, Horizon Forbidden West players may want to use this time to explore the area or pick up supplies from Fleet's End. There is plenty to do, so players don't necessarily need to rush. There are several NPCs in the settlement that sell powerful Legendary weapons and armor.

New Machines

When ready, go across the bridge and speak with Seyka to progress the main quest to the next step. Follow the waypoint to reach the tower. Along the way, players will encounter strange mechanical eggs. If players get too close, the eggs will hatch into a new machine that looks like a giant fly. They don't have much health, but they can easily overwhelm players if they all hatch at once.

The best way to avoid this is to shoot the eggs before they hatch, as it doesn't take much to destroy them. Before long, players will encounter another new machine called Bilegut. Bileguts are large frog like machines that spew acid and jump around. Once the machines are dead, continue on toward the tower.

Climbing the Tower

Going up the tower is fairly straight forward. Just like with any climbing section in Horizon Foribdden West, players will need to look for spots that can be climbed while also needing to periodically use the Pullcaster to open up a new path or remove a vent cover. Eventually, players will emerge at the top of the tower where the Zenith machine is.

How to Destroy the Zenith Weapon

Climb up the ladder on the right to reach a node that Aloy can override. Be ready though, as overriding the node triggers a trap left behind by Londra. The Zenith weapon will begin to fire at both Seyka and Aloy. Scan it with the Focus to find a weak point. Unfortunately, the weak point is too high up to be shot.

Go through the ruined hallways to find an unstable Firegleam. Shooting it will open a path that allows players to climb further up and reach a point where they can shoot the weak point. Destroy the weak point and then scan the machine again to find a second weak point that is on the front. In addition, there is a third weak point on the very top of the machine as well. With the machine destroyed, go back down and talk to Seyka to end the first main quest of Burning Shores.

Horizon Foribdden West is available now on PS4 and PS5. Burning Shores is available exclusively for PS5.
