Following the success of Horizon Zero Dawn, Guerrilla Games was able to follow it up with a stunning sequel. Horizon Forbidden West improves on its predecessor in almost every way, though it sticks to the core formula that fans have fallen in love with. Like the first game, Horizon Forbidden West will receive DLC. It appears to be set after the events of the main game, and this is useful, as the DLC could wrap up some loose ends.

With the DLC serving as an epilogue, it allows Forbidden West's follow-up to hit the ground running. There are plenty of dangers awaiting Aloy, with the most looming threat being Nemesis' arrival. To save humanity, Aloy will have to work with many tribes such as the Tenakth.

What Can Gamers Expect From Burning Shores DLC?

Horizon Forbidden West is out, but Aloy's story is far from over. Gamers will be seeing more of her with the Burning Shores DLC. To the disappointment of some, it has been revealed that the Burning Shores DLC will be a PS5 exclusive, leaving PS4 players out in the cold. This time around Aloy will be traveling to Los Angeles where she will encounter an archipelago littered with volcanoes. As Guerrilla Games has explained, the region lies south of the Tenakth Clan Lands, and there, the franchise heroine will discover new characters and adventures.

According to a Guerrilla Games blog post, the game will pick up where Horizon Forbidden West left off. There aren't further details revealed, though given the fact that this is only a DLC, it is unlikely that Nemesis will be making his appearance. Hence, the narrative is likely to involve Aloy's attempts to figure out how to deal with the incoming threat. Having the DLC set after the events of Horizon Forbidden West is useful, as it opens the opportunity for some of the pressing issues in Aloy's life to be addressed.

How Burning Shores DLC Can Bring Horizon Forbidden West to a Good Conclusion

During Horizon Forbidden West, Aloy experiences a lot, but she hardly has time to process it all because of how fast-paced everything is. The Burning Shores DLC could give her the chance to finally come to grips with everything that has occurred. The big elephant in the room is Varl's death. As one of Aloy's closest friends, Varl's death will no doubt have a huge impact on her, much like Rost's death has impacted her. To complicate the situation further, Zo is pregnant with Varl's child. Burning Shores could give Aloy the chance to find closure with Varl's death and to decide whether she is willing to leave Varl's child an orphan by having Zo on her team when she goes up against Nemesis.

Furthermore, Horizon Forbidden West ends with Aloy and her friends making the staggering discovery that Nemesis is on the way, and intends to destroy humanity. There is not much time to witness any fear and doubts that her friends may feel. The upcoming DLC gives Guerrilla Games a chance to reveal how different characters are feeling about Nemesis' arrival, and whether they have the morale necessary for the mammoth task ahead.

In addition to the Burning Shores DLC, Horizon fans can also look forward to Call of the Mountain, which will see the franchise debut in VR. The game is a launch title for the PSVR2, and it takes a break from Aloy to follow a new character named Ryas who is seeking redemption. Much like the mainline games, it will feature battles with machines and plenty of exploration, though the VR element should make things even more exciting.

Horizon Forbidden West's Burning Shores DLC is scheduled to release on April 19 on PS5.
