Horizon Forbidden West has been released, but Aloy's story is far from over. This year, players will get to go on more adventures with the Burning Shores DLC which will have Aloy traveling to Hollywood, which is barely recognizable, as it has been turned into a volcanic archipelago. Details are still scarce, though it appears that Aloy will be facing bigger dangers than ever. This has been hinted at in the reveal trailer which focuses on one of the Metal Devils, suggesting that players may be up against one of them.

The machine battles in the Horizon franchise have always been a high point, and Horizon Forbidden West is no different. If Metal Devils are enemies that Aloy will face in the upcoming DLC, it will take things to a whole new level. These foes are so big, they make Thunderjaws seem puny in comparison.

Metal Devils in the Burning Shores DLC

Metal devil and Faro machines in Horizon Forbidden West

In the Old World, Faro Automated Solutions created a slew of robots that were meant to help humanity. Instead, they became an unstoppable force of destruction that almost wiped out all life on Earth. One of the robots created by FAS is the Metal Devil, also known as the Horus Titan. This is a massive machine designed to infiltrate the most secure fortification. The Metal Devils were designed to serve as the "queen" of the robots, hence they are significantly larger than other machines. Unfortunately, like the rest of the machines, when the Faro Plague struck, the Metal Devils are also affected. As players explore, they see a few of these Metal Devils littering the land. Now deactivated, vegetation grows over them, and though they are inert, they still look sinister.

As Guerrilla Games has revealed, Aloy's next journey will be taking her to Los Angeles. It is not quite clear yet what draws her there, though it may have to do with Aloy's preparations for Nemesis' arrival. Though the reveal trailer is short, a Metal Devil makes an appearance. It sits atop the Hollywood sign, and while it appears dead at first, its eyes eventually glow red, suggesting that it has been reactivated. If this is the case, it will easily be one of the biggest foes Aloy has ever been up against, and it is difficult to imagine how she will manage to take down the massive titan on her own. This may be a situation where she will have to put her independent spirit aside and accept that only a team can conquer the enemy.

A battle with a Metal Devil would be incredibly intense, especially as it is not quite clear what the machine's abilities are. It has been revealed that it can rapidly produce robot swarms, meaning it never has to go into battle alone. It also has siege drills that help it to bore through the toughest fortification and defenses. These tools alone could make it one of Horizon's toughest enemies, and it will have to be approached very carefully, as Aloy could easily be overwhelmed by it.

The massive Metal Devil may be one of the reasons the Burning Shores DLC is PS5 exclusive. Although this has been disappointing to some fans, it will also excite others, as it is an indication that Guerrilla Games has something big in store. As gamers wait for the DLC to launch, they can enjoy the world of Horizon in VR with Call of the Mountain.

Horizon Forbidden West is available on PS4 and PS5.
