Since the vast majority of Horizon Forbidden West takes place in Tenakth territory, it should be no surprise that each quest in the game will allow players to learn more about this particular tribe. While details on the Tenakth were scarce in Horizon Zero Dawn, players get a good look at the Tenakth and their culture in the sequel.

One side quest in particular tells the story about a squad of Tenakth soldiers found in a cave by an Utaru farmer by the name of Jaxx. This side quest is called 'A Tribe Apart', and here is how Horizon Forbidden West players can start and complete it.

Talk to Jaxx

There is a farmer in Plainsong that players can talk to. He talks about a friend of his named Jaxx that is investigating a squad of Tenakth soldiers. This starts the 'A Tribe Apart' side quest. Set the side quest as active and follow the marker to reach a cave entrance where Jaxx is standing. This triggers a cutscene.

Inside the cave, players learn that one of the Tenakth soldiers was blinded during a training mission. They need supplies from Riverwatch, but have no means of getting there. Sokorra, the leader of the squad, is unwilling to accept help from either Aloy or Jaxx. To advance the quest, select the "How can we help?" dialogue option.

Follow Sokorra

Realizing the situation her squad is in, and the fact that several machines are patrolling the area, Sokorra reluctantly accepts help from Aloy and Jax but only if she goes with them. Follow Sokorra to reach Riverwatch. It doesn't take long to get there. Riverwatch is being guarded by several machines. Several are on the ground while others are up in the air. Try to shoot off components as not only are they valuable, but this also does a lot of damage to machines.

How to Get Inside Riverwatch

Sokorra is after a cache of supplies up on the top of Riverwatch. However, there doesn't seem to be an obvious way to get up there. Move around the back of the building to find a spot in the wall that can be broken with the Pullcaster. This provides access to the basement of Riverwatch. Climb out of the basement to reach a courtyard. Before going any further, make sure to use Vine Cutter to clear out the vines blocking the path forward.

Go up to the next level and look for a platform that is held up with rope. Shoot it down to gain access to a previously inaccessible room that contains a movable box. Grab the box and pull it toward the nearby wall.

Before going any further, drop toward the wall with the Firegleam on it and ignite it to gain access to a cache of helpful resources.

Up along the archway, there is a spot that players can use the Pullcaster to get across to a spot that can be climbed up. Further up, there is a ladder that can be reached with the Pullcaster. Climb up the ladder and walk forward to reach the cache that contains supplies for Sokorra and her soldiers. Unfortunately the cache is severely lacking.

Find Jaxx and Sokorra

Upon looting the cache, a cutscene will play. While Aloy was climbing up Riverwatch, Jaxx and Sokorra are dealing with a machine that showed up. Go back down and quickly follow them. Take out the machines and then talk to Jax and Sokorra to progress the quest.

Seeing how meager the supplies are, Sokorra reveals the truth. They were trying to survive on those supplies because her brother would likely be killed due to the fact that his injury has blinded him. The final step of this quest is to go back to the cave where the rest of Sokorra's squad is waiting. After watching the cutscene, this side quest ends.

Horizon Forbidden West is available now on PS4 and PS5.
