Honkai Star Rail has all the hallmarks of the HoYoverse franchise, with its gacha system, constantly updated storyline, grindy gameplay, anime-style character designs, and extensive missions. Honkai Star Rail's daily missions and side quests often put the player character, known as the Trailblazer, and their allies in awkward and funny situations. One of the more memorable missions so far involves pulling trash, which is not exactly what players typically expect when going on epic quests.

The space fantasy setting and characters of Honkai Star Rail may be familiar to fans already, as it’s the direct sequel of 2016’s Honkai Impact 3rd. Its gameplay is a departure from its predecessor, favoring turn-based combat and more rigid exploration. Despite this, the game seems to be enjoying the same level of success since its launch in April 2023, with more than five million downloads on Google Play alone. This may be because Honkai Star Rail has kept the same sense of humor and charm that the other HoYoverse games have, which is apparent in elements like Belobog’s trash cans.

What Lies Inside Belobog’s Garbage Cans

The trash cans of Belobog in Honkai Star Rail are a treat to interact with. Some may quiz the player about whether they should put wet or dry garbage in the can. Others may prompt the narration to say that the Trailblazer has never seen a trash can so clean before. When players get close to a trash can, they can inspect it by interacting with it, which will prompt a series of strange and funny messages about the urge of opening the bin as if it were some sort of treasure chest. Upon reaching into the can, one might indeed find something, but that turns out to be just trash.

A player might encounter another trash can with pieces of paper scattered over the garbage liners. When they piece the scraps together, the narration states that the paper's content is so scary that it disintegrates and drifts away as they finish reading it. Another bin contains a handwritten brochure for a flower shop commemorating Valentine’s Day. There’s also a trash can in the area that’s so putrid that it has a purple aura, and when the player opens it, Honkai Star Rail's Dan Heng and March run for cover.

Finding Treasure in Honkai Star Rail’s Trash

Some cans offer more than just bizarre descriptions and funny dialogue between the Trailblazer, Dan Heng, and March 7th. There’s one trash bin in the area that contains a letter from the Garbage King, who feels threatened about the fact that there is someone else going through Belobog’s trash. The reward is one Honkai Star Rail ancient coin, which players can presumably tip someone off to find out who the king is. However, this is best reserved for completing side missions like “Twinkly, Winkly” for rewards.

What is likely the best reward can be found in what the game would first describe as a rusted and worn-down garbage bin. As the Trailblazer stares at the trash can, it suddenly becomes rust and dent-free. The player sees a faint golden glow coming from inside the can, and they open it, only to find a piece of iron scrap at the bottom. But it’s not just any iron scrap, it’s actually a garbage can player icon that they can keep and use.

HoYoverse games like Honkai Star Rail and Genshin Impact are well-loved by fans partly because of their tasteful humor. People even made fan art of Honkai Star Rail's trash cans because they enjoyed rummaging through them so much. This is not the only humorous piece of content in the game, too. For example, players can troll one of the NPCs into thinking that they’ve contacted them for a money transfer. Some characters may even invite the Trailblazer into a gossip group chat that turns into a convoluted search into the mysterious “gossipmonger.” As such, these funny interactions are a great addition because offer a much-needed reprieve from the game’s often serious plot.

Honkai Star Rail is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5.
