Highlights

  • Tingyun in Honkai: Star Rail is a valuable support character who can buff the ATK of most DPS characters, making her a must-have for many players.
  • Players should prioritize leveling Tingyun's skill and burst abilities, as her normal attack is not useful for her teammates unless she is built as a DPS.
  • Tingyun can be easily built with ATK and SPD-focused relics, and players don't need to spend money on high-tier weapons for her. Pairing her with Bronya can enhance their synergy and benefit the team's overall DPS.

At its launch, Honkai: Star Rail didn't have many characters to choose from. This was to be expected, it was--and still is--a new game that has much still to come. However, when it came to supports, Tingyun was a blessing in disguise. Many compared her skill set to Bennett from Genshin Impact, another HoYoVerse game. Tingyun is a wonderful support who can buff most DPSs.

Her kit boosts ATK for a single unit with both her skill and burst. This is what makes her so good for so many characters. Even DPS characters who do not scale off of ATK can benefit from her buffs. She is a staple character that is often a must-build for players. Honkai: Star Rail players should spend the time and trailblaze power to ensure their teams can use her adequately.

Tingyun's trace priorities should be her skill and burst. Her normal attack does nothing for her teammates, and unless players plan to turn her into a DPS, it shouldn't be leveled at all. Players are better off investing in her skills that will boost her teammates since that is Tingyun's main purpose. Being mindful of that will help players make her the best support she could be.

When farming for Tingyun's relics, her best sets should stack as much ATK and SPD as possible. Her skill and burst both scale off of ATK, but because players want her to move before the DPS, that's where the SPD comes in. When using Tingyun's skill, she boosts a teammate's ATK based on her own ATK, and it stays for 3 turns. As an added bonus, since her buff lasts 3 turns, players only need to use her skill once every 3 turns. When paired with skill-hungry teammates, she isn't eating away at points and leaving players in a tough spot.

She doesn't need any five-star light cones to make her good either. Even the 3-star weapon Chorus is a good light cone for Tingyun. Tingyun is very free-to-play friendly and does not need money spent on her. There are also plenty of light cones available in the shops present in Honkai: Star Rail. However, for those who want to invest a lot of resources into her, Bronya's signature weapon, But The Battle Isn't Over, is her best available weapon. It heavily buffs the wearer's Energy Regeneration which makes Tingyun's burst more readily available. And since her burst is so vital to her kit, that can work wonders for her.

And with the mention of Bronya, she can complement Tingyun's kit very well too. Tingyun's team comps can benefit from having another support unit on the team. And though Bronya is another five-star unit that players may not have, she can be good not only for the team DPS, but also for Tingyun herself. She could boost her ATK, which then has Tingyun boost the DPSs ATK. Their synergy is amazing, and if a player has lost a 50/50 to her or gained her from the standard banner, she would be a wise unit to put on Tingyun's teams.

Overall, she has an easy-to-build kit and is a staple for many teams. There are many DPSs that can use her abilities, and Tingyun has low investment requirements and is a very flexible unit. Players can slot her into almost any team. With her ability to buff bursts and ATK, Honkai: Star Rail players will find her invaluable.
