The Stellaron Hunters in Honkai: Star Rail are a mysterious bunch. They are a faction led by Elio that's tasked to collect Stellarons, also known as the "cancer of all worlds," all over the universe. The group is wanted by the Interastral Peace Corporation (IPC), making them one of the main antagonists in the game.

Apart from Elio, the known Stellaron Hunters in Honkai: Star Rail are Kafka, Blade, and Silver Wolf, all of which are playable characters. Players also meet Kafka and Silver Wolf at the beginning of the game, with the former being the one to awaken the Trailblazer from his/her slumber. But there's one more Stellaron Hunter who has yet to show up in Honkai: Star Rail.

Who is Honkai: Star Rail's Mysterious Stellaron Hunter?

In Honkai: Star Rail's Data Bank under the Factions category, a certain Sam was named as one of the Stellaron Hunters. Silver Wolf also mentions them when players encounter her hologram in the Astral Express after finishing the Starhunt Game event and companion mission. However, not much is known yet about who Sam is.

Currently, Sam doesn't have any photos, and they're considered a leaked but unused character in Honkai: Star Rail. They're rumored to be a five-star Fire-type unit following the Path of Destruction, who has the same HP-draining abilities as fellow Stellaron Hunter Blade. Some players believe that they could be more powerful than either Kafka or Blade, especially since their identity is still being kept a secret. As of writing, Sam doesn't have a set release timeframe yet.

Another theory that's been going around is that Sam could be Sampo, who is the cunning merchant that players meet in Jarilo-VI. He is also a playable four-star Wind character following the Path of Nihility. Players would encounter Sampo moving between Belobog City and the Underworld, usually providing Wildfire members weapons and supplies to defend themselves against Fragmentum monsters. At the same time, he's a notorious thief known for scamming his "customers," which is why Gepard and the rest of the Silvermane Guards often try to apprehend him.

Whenever Sampo shows up in Honkai: Star Rail, he always brings in the laughs with his witty comebacks, but he's still a bit of a mystery because he always seemed to disappear from the scene when he's about to get caught. This could also be why people instantly thought that he might be Sam the Stellaron Hunter, apart from the fact that their names are identical as well. It really brings up whether Sampo had been doing more sinister deeds behind the scenes, or before the events of Honkai: Star Rail. It's also possible that Sampo could have a five-star counterpart, just like Dan Heng and Imbibitor Lunae.

The theory that Sampo was a Stellaron Hunter seemed to hold up even more when it was revealed that he was one of the featured four-star units in Kafka's banner in Version 1.2. Some could also argue that it was just a coincidence since Honkai: Star Rail's featured four-star characters are selected based on the synergies they have with the five-star banner unit. Since Kafka is also a Path of Nihility character, it would make sense for Sampo to be in the lineup as well to deal maximum damage over time (DOT) onto enemies.

Honkai: Star Rail is still a relatively new game, so there are still a lot of things that players would have to discover in the coming months. This also includes the backstories of all its characters, including Sampo and Sam. For now, players would have to wait a while to confirm the theories surrounding the mysterious Stellaron Hunter. If they were indeed Sampo, then Honkai: Star Rail players might be in for an exciting story down the line.

Honkai: Star Rail is available now for PC and mobile devices with a PlayStation version in development.
