Unlike Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail's 5-star characters are very useful and are a strong part of the Meta. At the start of the game, you get a beginner banner that offers a chance to get one of seven units. So, it’s understandable when a player aims to get the right character early-game.
Since each character has their own kit and is unique in their way, it’s important to get the right unit that suits your play style. For that, this article will go through all seven standard banner units and rate them based on their utility during combat, to give you better insight into the HSR reroll tier list.

All Active Honkai: Star Rail Redeem Codes (June 2024)
Stellar Jades is a crucial currency in Honkai: Star Rail as players need them to get new characters in the game.
7 Yanqing

Guides | |||
---|---|---|---|
At the start of the game, Yanqing was one of the best DPS in Honkai: Star Rail. However, he fell off hard after many better DPS units graced the featured banners. Yanqing is a unit that doesn’t need a Crit Rate or Crit DMG. He’s his own Relics and weapons. Joking aside, you can stack so much Crit DMG and ATK% on Yanqing without worrying about Crit Rate since he buffs himself with tons of Crit Rate.
Unfortunately, other than that, Yanqing is unable to do much, which means it’s better to aim for someone else on the beginner banner.
6 Himeko

Guides | |||
---|---|---|---|
Himeko is one part of a strong pair of her and Herta in Honkai: Star Rail. If you’re planning to acquire units that can finish Pure Fiction with ease, then Himeko is definitely the one for you. But outside Pure Fiction, Erudition characters in general fall short, and are unable to deal the damage other Paths can achieve.

Honkai Star Rail: What Is A Follow Up Attack And How To Do It
Follow-up attack is the main mechanic for some characters in Honkai: Star Rail; here’s what it does and how to do it.
All in all, Himeko is a strong DPS, but isn’t comparable to other DPS units in Honkai: Star Rail. You can get better units when rerolling the beginner banner.
5 Welt
![]() Welt | ![]() Imaginary | ![]() Nihility | ![]() 5-Star |
Guides | |||
---|---|---|---|
Welt is definitely a nice 5-star to have on your roster. However, he’s not an early-game character. While his damage is acceptable, his main gimmick shines when you match him with fast units that want to play more than the opposite side. Welt will leave enemies imprisoned often while slowing them and your team will continuously get their turns back.
He’s also an Imaginary unit in Honkai: Star Rail, which is not very friendly to build a team around at the start of the game. So, if you’re planning for the endgame, Welt is a decent choice to stop at when rerolling.
4 Gepard
![]() Gepard | ![]() Ice | ![]() Preservation | ![]() 5-Star |
Guides | |||
---|---|---|---|
Even if he’s one of the first characters in Honkai: Star Rail, Gepard is still considered one of the best shielders in the game. When casting his Ultimate, Gepard summons a shield big enough to wrap the entire HP of his allies. Gepard’s shield is very useful when you’re in situations where you don’t want to heal your characters and keep them in the low, or when a boss can hit really hard and your healer can’t hold the lines without a Preservation unit like Gepard in Honkai: Star Rail.

Honkai: Star Rail - Reroll Guide
In this guide, we will tell you how to reroll in Honkai: Star Rail and whether it is worth your effort. Here's everything you need to know.
For reroll purposes, Gepard is a very useful early-game unit since he can help clear everything while staying relevant in the endgame. Just note that you may struggle with regaining his Ultimate in the early game because of the lack of access to Energy Regeneration Rate Relic.
3 Clara
![]() Clara | ![]() Physical | ![]() Destruction | ![]() 5-Star |
Guides | |||
---|---|---|---|
This little girl is considered one of the hardest hitters in Honkai: Star Rail. Svarog’s Counterattacks are deadly to squishy enemies and definitely hurtful to bosses. Just place Clara in a team where you can taunt enemies enough to target her for attacks and watch Svarog decimate anyone who dares to touch her.
For reroll, Clara is one of the best DPS units in Honkai: Star Rail and can have a strong team around her that stays useful in the endgame.
2 Bailu
![]() Bailu | ![]() Lightning | ![]() Abundance | ![]() 5-Star |
Guides | |||
---|---|---|---|
It’s not easy to rate Bailu since she can be replaced after you pull a couple more useful healers in Honkai: Star Rail. However, healing-wise, she’s among the best healers in the game. When casting her Skill, Bailu’s healing can jump between allies and provide a much-needed team healing instead of a single target one. Additionally, it’s easy for her to have her Ultimate ready, so she can always cast it and grant her team with Invigoration that protects them for the turns to come.

Honkai Star Rail: Trial of Equilibrium Level 1 F2P Guide
Trial of Equilibrium level 1 contains two of the earliest elite enemies in Honkai: Star Rail.
Bailu is definitely one of the best characters to pull when you reroll since she can also revive allies when they fall, which is a unique passive in her kit. She'll carry your way through the early game, making it far easier than it would with a F2P healer like Natasha. Just keep in mind that she has no cleansing ability, which causes her to be easily replaceable in more demanding content.
1 Bronya
![]() Bronya | ![]() Wind | ![]() Harmony | ![]() 5-Star |
Guides | |||
---|---|---|---|
With many new Harmony units making it into Honkai: Star Rail, Bronya was and still is a broken Support. When teaming Bronya with any DPS in the game, she will grant them a massive damage buff alongside making them play more, which is everything a DPS wants, basically.
Another amazing part of Bronya is that she mainly grants DMG Bonus and Crit DMG buff instead of a specific stat like ATK, so units like Blade can still pair well with her. Among all the available standard banner characters, Bronya easily places herself at the top of the Honkai: Star Rail reroll tier list, thanks to her being a universal support that works brilliantly in the early and endgame.
