Honkai: Star Rail's latest permanent expansion, Simulated Universe: Gold and Gears, offers players new lore to discover while exploring and unlocking blessings, curios, and more through challenging this specific content. While it is quite similar to the Swarm disaster mode, which also had a board and countdown system allowing players to take routes that suit them better, there are some differences between the two modes.

One of the biggest differences alongside the new customizable dices comes with the new Secrets system, which allows players to unlock new lore and enables them to progress to make the Erudition Path available in other Simulated Universe game modes. While this is quite easy to do, it is recommended that players pay attention to some aspects, as they will need to clear Gold and Gears many times before they can unlock all secrets.
How to Unlock Trailblaze (Plane) Secrets
In Gold and Gears, the Secrets are primarily unlocked by choosing specific directions based on the Intra-Cognition System. Not only are they needed to be able to unlock the Trailblaze and Aeon secrets, but unlocking them will also allow players to obtain new dice faces to customize their dice, and other rewards like Stellar Jades. The current Intra-Cognition points are visible above the game map, allowing players to see which domains they can enter next. Furthermore, between each planar, they can also see the route they are taking, enabling them to pre-calculate and aim for a certain point range.
In order to better keep track of the secrets that have not yet been uncovered, the game mode introduces a Bonus Reward Target system. This system always aims to guide players through Intra-Cognition point ranges they have not yet obtained, as long as there is any achievable remaining. Furthermore, the Bonus Reward Target allows players to obtain additional Neural Impulse points, which can be quite helpful in acquiring more buffs in the Neural Impulse. However, following Bonus Reward Target goal is not mandatory to be able to unlock all secrets.

Even without relying on the Bonus Reward Target system, players can see which paths have been previously unlocked by paying attention to the small icons on the Intra-Cognition points bar. A small checkmark on a certain range indicates that it has already been unlocked before. Additionally, players can always check the path they are taking by clicking the small icon to the left of the point system to see their progress.
How To Be In The Right Intra-Cognition Point Range?
Based on the difficulty level when players start exploring, the Intra-Cognition Point Range will differ. As such, while following the Bonus Reward Target system is an excellent way to ensure unlocking secrets as quickly as possible, players need to pay attention to the difficulty level they are in while clearing the game mode. This is because, while many secrets are obtainable through Difficulty 3, some will require players to complete Difficulty 4 as well. The Intra-Cognition range is between -30 and +30 for Difficulty 3, while it expands to -40 and +40 for Difficulty 4 and above.
Players with well-geared characters can consider challenging all content on Difficulty 4 to ensure they can unlock everything without worrying about the range not being attainable in lower levels. Alternatively, another approach is to go for lower difficulties initially, collecting as many neural network buffs as possible while also working on unlocking other collection items such as new resonances and curios. Players can then tackle the remaining secrets when they have accumulated enough buffs.
In addition to paying attention to the range, players also need to consider how to enter the right point range. There are a few means of achieving this, with one being a random Emergency that occurs in every plane. Emergencies can either reduce or increase the Intra-Cognition value. While this Emergency might help with getting into or closer to the required range, it may also introduce some adversity.
A more reliable method of manipulating the Cognition value is through entering a new type of domain known as Intra-Cognition Domains. These domains allow players to reduce or increase the range by 20 points in the first and second planes and by 40 points in the last plane. Typically, in the last plane, the range may not matter, but since there are achievements for reaching -40 or +40 points, players may choose to enter them for additional convenience. Furthermore, these domains can also provide added benefits by allowing players to choose between certain advantages, such as obtaining cheats, added points to the countdown, and more. By paying attention to both the random occurrences, and planning how many of these domains to enter ahead, players should easily be able to stay in the desired range.
How to Unlock Aeon Secrets and Finale
Aeon secrets become unlockable after players unlock all Trailblazer secrets in a specific plane and subsequently clear that particular plane to access the special instance. With 2 Aeon secrets for each plane, players will need to complete the entire exploration at least two times to obtain all of them. It's worth noting that while some Trailblaze secrets may require a higher difficulty, players can unlock all Aeon secrets even at a lower difficulty if they prefer a quicker completion.
The Finale will be unlocked after players have obtained all Aeon Secrets. Subsequently, they will receive a quest to complete Gold and Gears once more. Upon successfully finishing this special instance of Gold and Gears, players will be able to unlock the Erudition path, achieve "I am Omega," and essentially complete all of the secrets.
