Highlights

  • Honkai: Star Rail's 2.0 update is a significant improvement, showcasing the growth of the HoYoVerse.
  • Inazuma, Genshin Impact's 2.0 update, faced backlash due to rushed writing, leaving fans disappointed.
  • Honkai: Star Rail's 2.0 update introduces a new region, Penacony, with exciting discoveries and enticing character releases.

When looking at the Honkai: Star Rail 2.0 livestream, it's hard not to see how far HoYoVerse has come since Genshin Impact's version 2.0. Instead of a small upgrade from 1.6 to 1.7, it's from 1.6 to 2.0. Honkai: Star Rail promises good things and players get the chance to experience a whole new world because of that.

In Genshin Impact's 2.0 update, there was a lot of hype surrounding the future of the game and a lot of speculation about how long it would take the game to get to the final chapters. Now with players awaiting version 4.4's Lantern Rite, there's a lot to look back on. These days are important for Honkai: Star Rail, as in a few years when it reaches its own 4.4 version, there will undoubtedly be nostalgia about the early days.

Genshin Impact Version 2.0

With the first large update to the game came a brand-new region: Inazuma. For the first time, Genshin Impact was adding a new region to the game permanently. Though the Golden Apple Archipelago event was well-loved, it wasn't a permanent addition like Inazuma was. Fans were curious about what the Traveler would be doing in this new region, since it looked so much like complete war and chaos (though, that's exactly what it was.)

However, nowadays, fans aren't fond of Inazuma's writing. It felt rushed to many, and it ruined the experience for a lot of players. For those who started playing shortly after Inazuma's release, it looked like there was so much to look forward to and do. And this isn't to say there wasn't, since the game had new sorts of puzzles and seelies to unlock. But in retrospect, the version didn't hold up as well as fans wanted it to.

Kamisato Ayaka's first banner was also released alongside Inazuma. She was a character seen in the game's beta that players had been wanting ever since. Her reveal was well done and Ayaka's banner's profit was good for its time ($16 million; her character was so striking that profits doubled on her first rerun.) Other characters who were doing well around her release time are:

  • Zhongli's first banner ($16 million)
  • Venti's first rerun ($16 million)
  • Albedo & Eula double banners ($17 million)

Honkai: Star Rail Version 2.0

This next update is crucial for Honkai: Star Rail. Though Inazuma is loved by many, the backlash can't be ignored and this is a lesson the new world, Penacony, doesn't need to learn. The first big update like this for the game should've been well-paced and given no feelings of being rushed. This new region seems to be full of fun for players to discover, so hopefully the game can keep that energy for all the 2.x versions.

Similarly to how Ayaka's was anticipated, Black Swan was teased in a trailer back in May 2023, not too long after the game's release in April. Her arrival in 2.0 is sure to cause a stir among fans. But beyond the available characters for wishing are the sweet rewards given to players. Not only are players getting the usual 10 wishes from Gift of Odyssey, but players will be given another 10 wishes simply for logging in. On top of this, a free four-star of the following will be available during an event:

  • Guinafen
  • Sampo
  • Asta
  • Yukong

Version 2.0 is going to be a big show of talent for Honkai: Star Rail. What it shows now will be a good way to measure what's on its way for future patch updates. Players will want to watch closely to see more news and reveals about the version and its promises like Sparkle seeming like a broken Harmony unit after Ruan Mei.
