Highlights
- Genshin Impact could benefit from implementing the player-friendly features of Honkai: Star Rail, such as a guaranteed standard five-star character on the starter banner with five 10-pulls.
- The Regular Warp system in Star Rail allows players to choose a free standard five-star character after 300 pulls, which Genshin's Standard Banner lacks.
- Star Rail's Trailblaze Power system, which has a higher cap and allows for overflow, would be beneficial if implemented in Genshin to provide players with more resin and the freedom to engage in resin-required content.
Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail are both games made by the same developer, HoYoverse. While Genshin Impact has been out for roughly three years, Honkai: Star Rail has only been out for roughly eight months. Although they have a lot of things in common, like both being gacha games, there are some player quality of life improvements that are present in Star Rail that Genshin lacks. These improvements range in use from new players to those at a high Trailblazer level. If brought to Genshin in some way, shape or form, it would be a boon to all players, regardless of where they're at in the story.
Guaranteed Standard Five Star on Departure Warp
Starter Banner Features | Star Rail | Genshin Impact |
Standard Five Star Guarantee | Yes | No |
Number of 10-pulls Granted | 5 | 2 |
In Star Rail, after unlocking the ability to warp, players are greeted with a starter banner that showcases the standard five stars and guarantees the player one within five 10-pulls. In Genshin, upon unlocking the ability to wish, players are greeted with a starter banner that showcases the four star Geo character, Noelle, and she is the only guaranteed character to appear at least once within two 10-pulls. If Genshin could alter the Beginner Banner to be like Star Rail's Departure Warp, it would help new players have a better experience with early Adventure Rank levels, since they'd have five tries to get new characters and be guaranteed a standard five star to use in their early adventures.
Regular Warp Banner Features a Free Five Star After 300 Pulls
Standard Banner Features | Star Rail | Genshin Impact |
All Currently Available Non-Limited Four and Five Star Characters + Light Cones/Weapons | Yes | Yes |
300 Pulls Milestone Guaranteed Standard Five Star of Player Choice | Yes | No |
Genshin's Standard Banner system forces players to sink wishes into it without any guarantee of getting the standard five star character or weapon they most desire when reaching gold. Star Rail's Regular Warp system features a milestone counter that will let the player choose a free standard five star character of their choice after making 300 pulls. Granted, this is a one-time feature that goes away after reaching that milestone, but if Genshin were to implement a similar system, it'd be helpful to know players wouldn't have to depend on luck to finally acquire the standard five star character or weapon they most desire.
Archived Events
Limited Time Events | Star Rail | Genshin Impact |
Sometimes Lore Focused | Yes | Yes |
Unlocked via Story Progression | Yes | Yes |
Certain events can be played at any time, even if they're no longer considered active. | Yes | No |
Genshin's limited time events, which usually require players to be at the right level/part in the narrative, are only around until their clock runs out. That means new players, those that don't meet the requirements, and those currently taking a break from the game won't be able to experience the event. Star Rail's limited time events, on the other hand, range from events that require the player to be present, to those that are archived in the "Conventional Memoir" which make them playable even if it has been months since the event was active. While the "Conventional Memoir" function warns that it reduces the rewards granted (to incentivize playing the event when it's active), it at least allows players to play at their own pace.
240 Trailblaze Power and a Reserve for Overflow
Trailblaze Power/Resin System | Star Rail | Genshin Impact |
Original Cap | 180 | 120 |
Current Cap | 240 | 160 |
Reserve for Overflow | Yes | No |
Genshin's resin limit is very restrictive and doesn't allow players to spend much time farming, since most actions, such as domains and bosses, have a high resin cost. It would benefit from a boost and, by extension, an overflow for any resin gained past the cap. Star Rail's Trailblaze Power was boosted to 240 in patch 1.3, and in the same patch it introduced a Trailblaze Power Reserve that allows excess power to be collected in a separate bank for later use. If Genshin could boost the resin cap and implement a similar system, it would be an asset to players who want the freedom to do more resin-required content every day.
Standard Five Star Light Cones in Starlight Exchange
Standard Light Cone/Weapon Acquisition | Star Rail | Genshin Impact |
Get off Standard/Limited Banner | Yes | Yes |
Get from Starlight/Starglitter Exchange Shop | Yes | No |
Star Rail features two ways to get standard light cones; one way is to pull one from the standard banner or from a loss on the limited banner, and the other way is to buy one out of the Starlight Exchange Shop for 600 Starlight. Genshin only features the first method, since Paimon's Starglitter Exchange Shop only offers a rotating selection of four star weapons. It would be beneficial to players if, like in Star Rail, there was a way to buy standard five star weapons from the Starglitter Exchange Shop, so that players would have a way to guarantee the standard five star weapon of their choosing.
Limited Light Cone Banner has a 75/25 System
Limited Light Cone/Weapon Banner Stats | Star Rail | Genshin Impact |
Chance of Limited Light Cone/Weapon | 75% | 50% |
Chance of Standard Light Cone/Weapon | 25% | 50% |
Epitomized Path (Fate Points) to Guarantee Limited Weapon | No | Yes |
The limited light cone banner on Star Rail has a system with a 75% chance to get the limited light cone and a 25% chance of losing to a standard five star light cone. This makes players more likely to win the limited light cone, since the odds are in their favor. Genshin's limited weapon banner grants players a 50/50 shot at getting a limited five star weapon, utilizing an Epitomized Path system that requires two fate points before guaranteeing the chosen limited five star Genshin weapon if the player can reach pity a third time in a row. If the weapon banner could be reworked to operate like Star Rail's light cone banner, it would be a boon to the players that love pairing a limited character with their limited weapon but lack the funds to reach pity three times.
Weekly Bosses Have an Overall Limit of 3
Weekly Boss Stats | Star Rail | Genshin Impact |
Current Number of Weekly Bosses | 3 | 8 |
Number of drop types from each Boss | 1 | 3 |
Fighting attempts allowed per Boss per week | Multiple | 1 |
Genshin currently has eight weekly bosses to choose from and limits its players to only fighting each Genshin Impact boss once a week. This means if players don't get the drops they need, they're forced to either use dream solvent, which has a very low drop rate, or wait for the next week to roll around, so they can fight the boss again. Star Rail currently has three bosses and each boss can be farmed more than once a week, for an overall limit of three attempts across all bosses, meaning players can sink all three attempts into one boss or choose to mix attempts among the options. If Genshin could allow players to be able to farm the same weekly boss more than once a week, it would be a boon to players trying to farm specific pieces for certain characters.
