Hollow Knight is a game that has a lot of lore just beneath the surface. One of the ways that plays out is by having multiple endings that result in a new start for the world, or just a fresh cycle for the characters to be trapped in.

There are five different possible endings in Hollow Knight, some of which require exact actions to be taken by the player. Sometimes these actions play out in combat, while others require long, elaborate, and frustratingly difficult side quests to be completed.

Every Ending in Hollow Knight

There are a total of five endings in Hollow Knight. Three are attached to the game’s original release and the Hollow Knight boss fight while the other two were added as part of the Godmaster DLC. Here’s how to get each one, and what they entail.

The Hollow Knight Ending

The ending dubbed simply as “The Hollow Knight” is the easiest to get. After advancing to the end of the game, the player can battle the Hollow Knight sealed in the Temple of the Black Egg.

Defeat them and absorb the infection to become the new Hollow Knight, which results in the Knight becoming the new Hollow Knight by absorbing the Infection and becoming sealed in the Infected Crossroads himself.

Sealed Siblings Ending

Players can obtain the Void Heart to unlock two new endings. The Void Heart is obtained as part of a lengthy sidequest where players need to get both halves of the Kingsoul, then bring it to the bottom of The Abyss. They also need to unlock the Awoken Dream Nail and use it on the mysterious egg that shows the Knight’s reflection.

This starts a story sequence where players need to climb out of The Abyss and get a bit of backstory for The Knight. This transforms the Kingsoul into the Void Heart. Once players have the Void Heart, two new endings are unlocked around the Hollow Knight boss battle.

The first sees Hornet jump in to help the Knight. The player is meant to use the Dream Nail on the Hollow Knight during this sequence. If he doesn’t, a new version of the ending sees both the Knight and Hornet sealed.

Dream No More Ending

The Radiance battle in Hollow Knight

If the player uses the Dream Nail on the Hollow Knight while it’s being held in place by Hornet, another boss battle begins against the Radiance. If the player wins, they receive a different ending. The Knight seemingly dies but rids Hallownest of the Infection as well as the Siblings that roam the Abyss.

Embrace the Void Ending

As part of the Godmaster DLC, players can unlock a new area called the Pantheon of Hallownest, which unlocks 42 boss battles that can be freely challenged. If the player clears all 42 of them, they face a new boss called Absolute Radiance. Defeat Absolute Radiance to unlock the Embrace the Void Ending which sees, as the name suggests, the Godseeker embrace the Void.

Delicate Flower Ending

If the player completes the Delicate Flower side quest where they need to bring an item from one end of Hallownest to the other without taking damage before defeating Absolute Radiance, they unlock the Delicate Flower ending. This plays out similarly to the Embrace the Void ending but seemingly sees the Delicate Flower purge the Void.

Both the Embrace the Void and the Delicate Flower endings seemingly set the stage for Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Hollow Knight is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
