Some Hogwarts Legacy players have requested alterations be made to how wands can be chosen. Although handles can be customized after initially selecting a wand in Hogwarts Legacy, it is the only thing that can be changed, leaving most other components static for the rest of the game, much to the frustration of some players who go on to regret how they created their wand.

Despite reception to the game being highly positive, more faults have been found in Hogwarts Legacy in varying aspects of the game, largely with quality of life aspects such as gear transmogrification which has been mostly standardized in the industry at this point. In the case of not being able to alter wands outside changing handles, it does seem like a missed opportunity to provide a way to have it altered on the chance it comes out in a less-than-ideal way, something bound to happen to many given the depth of customization for wands.

This is the exact request raised by a Reddit user going by mynameescapesmern, who laments not having the opportunity to change how their wand looks after being displeased with how it looks with many of the handles that can be found in Hogwarts Legacy. They were specifically bemoaning how they had chosen a ringed wand, and this theme did not fit well with handles they liked, leading to this desire for wands to be altered after initial customization.

Users in the comments have offered a variety of opinions as well as suggestions to help mynameescapesmern, with the top comment stating in lore that it is highly taboo for witches and wizards to change their wand, and a response to that comment joking that unforgivable curses are also taboo but can be easily spammed in Hogwarts Legacy with little consequence despite the weight they carry in Harry Potter lore. Others suggested handles that they had paired with ringed wands which matched nicely with the overall aesthetic, be it to provide a nice contrast or give a certain vibe.

Despite the things it does get right, Hogwarts Legacy is lacking in certain mechanics, with efforts to add flavor or flesh them out falling flat and feeling half-hearted. In the case of customizing the wand after determining its appearance, it can be debated whether it should be allowed for gameplay purposes, but it can be argued that it is right for only minimal changes to be allowed for the sake of lore accuracy to the universe.

Hogwarts Legacy is out now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Ports for PS4 and Xbox One will be available on April 4, and for Switch on July 25.
