Hogwarts Legacy's latest update has added animation for the Wendelin the Weird portrait in Hogwarts castle. Hogwarts Legacy first released for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X this past February, so the portrait has been missing its animation for months.

Since most of the portraits in Hogwarts Legacy move and are animated in some way, it's always been a bit odd for fans that the Wendelin the Weird portrait was immobile. Tucked away in the patch notes for the latest Hogwarts Legacy update was a note that the VFX for the Wendelin the Weird painting were restored. While this is a relatively small change in the grand scheme of things, it's one that certainly didn't go unnoticed by the Hogwarts Legacy community.

Reddit user Chemical-Schedule548 posted a video of Wendelin the Weird's new animation, with many others chiming in about how they're happy with this change. Some commenters didn't even realize that the painting wasn't animated previously, whereas others have been bothered by it since Hogwarts Legacy's initial launch. Those just now starting their Hogwarts Legacy adventure on PS4 and Xbox One will never have to experience a version of the game where Wendelin the Weird isn't animated, it seems.

The PS4 and Xbox One versions of Hogwarts Legacy launched on May 5 alongside the game's big new update. The update made a number of other changes to Hogwarts Legacy besides adding VFX to Wendelin the Weird, like squashing various bugs that have been plaguing the game. One of the most notable was an annoying Hogwarts Legacy PS5 bug that made players' clothes perpetually dirty for no reason.

It's possible that Avalanche Software has even more updates in store for Hogwarts Legacy in the months ahead, but details on what those updates may entail will have to wait for another time. As it stands, fans know that Hogwarts Legacy is coming to Nintendo Switch on July 25, so if a new update is on the way, it seems reasonable to assume that it will come around that time like how this latest update released alongside the PS4 and Xbox One ports.

The PS4 and Xbox One ports of Hogwarts Legacy have been performing surprisingly well, as many fans had assumed that the lack of next-generation horsepower would cause problems for the massive open world game. The high-quality of the PS4 and Xbox One ports of Hogwarts Legacy have given fans new confidence in the Switch version of the game, which should also launch with a perfectly-functioning Wendelin the Weird portrait come July.

Hogwarts Legacy is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X with a Switch version coming July 25.
