Hogwarts Legacy tells the story of a brave fifth-year student's first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. On their first day, they end up making friends with several students, one of whom is Sebastian Sallow, an outspoken Slytherin who has an unsettling fascination with Dark Magic.

Sebastian explains to the protagonist that he has a strained relationship with his uncle several times throughout Hogwarts Legacy's story, and he goes on to prove it during the In The Shadow of the Relic quest by using Avada Kedavra to kill him. Using a curse like this would usually land whoever cast it in Azkaban, but the game leaves Sebastian's fate up to the player.

What Happens If You Do Not Turn Sebastian In?

Choosing to turn Sebastian in in Hogwarts Legacy

Choosing whether to turn Sebastian in or not is arguably the biggest decision players will have to make during their Hogwarts Legacy playthrough. Not only will it affect how the In the Shadow of Friendship quest plays out, but it will also have a notable impact on the game's final cutscene.

During the In the Shadow of Fate relationship quest, the protagonist will need to speak to Ominis and decide whether they should turn Sebastian in or not. If players choose not to turn him in, the protagonist will attempt to reason with Ominis by pointing out how much Sebastian regrets what he did. Ominis will take some convincing, but he will eventually agree with the protagonist before setting off to convince Anne of the same.

After completing The Final Repository main quest and watching the cutscenes that follow, Sebastian will appear and speak to the protagonist once more. The protagonist will then reveal to Sebastian that it was Victor Rookwood who cursed Anne, not a goblin. In response, Sebastian will thank the protagonist for telling him and suggest that his hatred of goblin-kind might not be justified.

When players next meet Sebastian during the In the Shadow of Friendship quest, he will tell the protagonist that, though Anne believes he should be punished, she refused to turn him in. He will then go on to explain that he truly regrets what he did and that he hopes he can make up for it one day.

Players who have yet to learn the Unforgivable Curses can do so immediately after this conversation ends by interacting with Sebastian once more; even though he regrets making use of these infamous spells, he will happily teach them to the protagonist if they ask.

If players choose to turn Sebastian in, Ominis will report what happened to Headmaster Black. Later, after completing The Final Repository, Ominis will approach the protagonist and explain that Sebastian is with the Headmaster and is being questioned regarding Soloman Sallow's death. The protagonist will then reveal to Ominis that it was Victor Rookwood who cursed Anne; in response, Ominis will attempt to convey this information to Sebastian before he is taken away.

During the In Shadow of Friendship quest, Ominis will appear in the Undercroft instead of Sebastian and will tell the protagonist that Sebastian was expelled and is currently awaiting trial. He will go on to say that he spoke to him before he was taken away and informed him that Rookwood was responsible for Anne getting cursed; according to Ominis, this information only served to fuel Sebastian's hatred of goblins.

Should You Turn Sebastian In Or Not?

All spells in Hogwarts Legacy

Players who chose not to learn the three Unforgivable Curses when they had the chance earlier but want to learn them now should choose not to turn Sebastian in; once he is gone, the only way to acquire these spells is for players to begin a new game and start over.

Aside from the Unforgivable Curses, there are no missables associated with this decision, so players are free to choose whatever outcome they like without fear of missing out on anything important. That said, those hoping to see Sebastian during the end-of-year celebration or run into him during the post-game will be unable to if they choose to turn him in, so it's best to keep him around if players don't want to miss out on any additional Sebastian content, even though there isn't much to be seen.

Hogwarts Legacy is now available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with a Switch release scheduled to release on November 14, 2023.
