Hogwarts Legacy has been a roaring success. However, some players might be looking for ways to play the new Harry Potter-universe game in ways that can mimic the styles of different characters or factions known to the wider audience.
One of the most notable factions from the Harry Potter movies and the history of the Wizarding World is the Death Eaters. Hogwarts Legacy may take place before the time of Lord Voldemort, but that won’t stop many players from trying to play in the style of one of his dark wizard minions.
The Look
It’s easy to say but one of the major aspects of playing as a dark wizard or Death Eater is to put together a perfectly evil look in Hogwarts Legacy. Scars, an unkempt look, or perhaps the slick style of a young Voldemort himself, there is no particular one way to dress and appear as a Death Eater.
One of the definite aspects, though, is the dress code, as darker robes for a Death Eater are important. Next, players can customize their brooms and wands in order to make them feel more appropriate for the style of a follower of Voldemort himself. Dark, brooding, and evil is the best and easiest look to go for in terms of simple appearance for a Death Eater.
Curse Skills
Dark wizards are known for their curses. While there are some obviously dark spells in Hogwarts Legacy, if someone wishes to style their character after the dark arts, there are some skills that a new player can start with. These picks will help their character lead a more dangerous path before the higher-level spells become available in the game.
Such skills include “Curse Sapper” which restores a Hogwarts Legacy player's health after a cursed enemy has been defeated. Also, “Enduring Curse” makes curses last longer on enemies. Furthermore, “Blood Curse” causes damage on a cursed enemy to affect all similarly cursed enemies. These skills are basic components of a character that will help elevate darker spells and styles.
Potion Potencies
Another aspect that can help players utilize darker skills and spells better is to maximize the efficiency of the kinds of potions that a Death Eater build should use more frequently. In particular, Maxima Potion Potency makes attacks better at breaking the shields of enemies.
Also, Focus Potion Potency is a great skill that increases the length that a potion will be in effect. These potencies allow players to make a great build for combat-heavy work, which is generally an area Death Eaters have to prioritize.
Slytherin
One of the earliest choices players make in Hogwarts Legacy is selecting their wizard or witch's house. According to the Harry Potter lore, Slytherin is the Hogwarts house with the longest history of dark wizards; consequently, almost all Death Eaters builds should really start out in Slytherin.
It will be a lot easier to follow the kinds of stories and make the kind of friends that the player will want to use as a Death Eater if they join Slytherin at the beginning of the game. It just feels wrong to try and become one of the darkest wizards in history by joining Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, or Ravenclaw.
The Unforgivable Curses
In Hogwarts Legacy, these curses are found by following Sebastian Sallow's storyline. Whether the player chooses to actually learn the curses during these quests is down to them and their individual play style. Fortunately, it is easy to choose the option to learn all the curses if the player is attempting to take the path of a Death Eater.
The key to any Death Eater build is learning the unforgivable curses and using them as liberally as possible in the game. Combat can be made a lot easier if a build centers on learning and enhancing these three incredibly overpowered spells. Imperio, Crucio, and Avada Kedavra are three curses known to only be used by dark wizards, and thus they make hugely important aspects of any Death Eater or dark wizard build.
To help increase the usability of these three curses since they have the largest cooldowns in the game, players should use potions and unlock skills such as Crucio Mastery and Imperio Mastery.
Unforgivable III
There are also some hugely useful traits in Hogwarts Legacy that can help with Death Eater builds, most notably Unforgivable III due to the additional boost it gives toward the unforgivable curses. It may seem like a lot of the build for a Death Eater is centered on these three relatively late-game curses, but they are the most notable aspect of what a player can learn which no good wizard should stray towards.
Fortunately, there is no actual penalty in Hogwarts Legacy for choosing to learn these three curses, so they can be used to great success with no punishment at all in return. Players should get pieces of equipment found randomly with traits like Unforgivable to further assist them in putting together the perfectly evil character for their playthrough.
Hogwarts Legacy is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox Series X/S. The game is set to launch on April 4, 2023, on the PS4 and Xbox One, while the Switch version is due to debut on July 25, 2023.
