Highlights

  • The house of Ravenclaw in Hogwarts Legacy receives less overall representation compared to the other houses, and a sequel should prioritize creating more content revolving around Ravenclaw.
  • The lack of depth and quest lines for the Ravenclaw companion, Amit Thakkar, compared to companions from other houses is a noticeable flaw in the game
  • A sequel to Hogwarts Legacy should address this issue by exploring Ravenclaw further through its main story and side characters.

Hogwarts Legacy brought both fans of open world adventure games and Harry Potter fans together for one epic journey into the secrets and mysteries that can be found in the titular school. However, despite the success of the game, there has still been warranted criticism from some players who believe Hogwarts Legacy missed some opportunities when it comes to content from the franchise's lore. From wishing for season changes to Quidditch matches, there are several features from the world of Harry Potter that were seemingly missing from the game, but one of its biggest mistakes should be addressed in a sequel.

Although the game was released at the beginning of the year, some fans already have theories about a Hogwarts Legacy sequel, and if a second game does in fact grace gamers' screens, then that would provide ample opportunity to fix the mistakes of the first game. Adding Quidditch or featuring an iconic creature like the Basilisk would be great starters to bring in classic parts of the Harry Potter lore, but one of the issues that a sequel should strive to fix involves the houses of Hogwarts.

When it was revealed that Hogwarts Legacy would allow players to choose which house they would like to be part of, many fans were looking forward to joining the houses they identified most with. However, one of the four houses seems to have gotten the short end of the stick when it comes to overall representation. Ravenclaw doesn't have nearly the same amount of depth that the other houses get, and any potential sequel to Hogwarts Legacy should work to make more Ravenclaw content a priority.

Ravenclaw may have one of the coolest common rooms in the game, but overall, the game is sorely lacking when it comes to content revolving around the house. There is some interesting Ravenclaw content, like student Amit Thakkar, but he doesn't have as much of a story compared to the Gryffindor, Slytherin, or Hufflepuff companions. There are some important companions in Hogwarts Legacy, but Amit Thakkar's character unfortunately doesn't hold the same weight as the other companions found in the game.

The other three companions come with various quest lines, but Amit Thakkar only offers two quests for players to accomplish. This Ravenclaw companion is so lacking in content for some players that there is even hope for a Hogwarts Legacy DLC for Amit that gives him a moment in the spotlight. However, a better fix would be a sequel addressing the issue of not exploring Ravenclaw enough. Since Ravenclaws are known for their thirst for knowledge, the house should present a perfect starting point for creating interesting and well-crafted quest lines, but it sadly falls flat compared to the other houses.

Despite the game offering a lot of fun exploration, Hogwarts Legacy misses several opportunities, and a sequel can hopefully address these mistakes. There is the possibility that Ravenclaw was going to play a bigger role in the game but had to be cut due to time constraints, but a sequel will hopefully give Hogwarts' smartest house the same amount of story and representation as the other three. Not only would it be beneficial to give more Ravenclaw content in honor of the fans who were eager to learn more about the house, it would also make a sequel feel larger than its predecessor. Hogwarts Legacy may have missed the mark on some things, but it's still one of the year's most successful games, and following up such a popular game with the redemption of a house as beloved as Ravenclaw would be a great way to get more players on board for a sequel.

Hogwarts Legacy is out now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with a Switch version releasing on November 14.
