Warner Bros. has officially released details regarding its planned PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S performance mode options to be included in Hogwarts Legacy. The upcoming Harry Potter video game is going to be the biggest release in the medium yet and developer Avalanche Software is pushing the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S hardware to their limits. Still, balancing resolution and framerate isn't simple, so Hogwarts Legacy will have performance options like many other AAA console releases. To say that Hogwarts Legacy's development has been troubled would perhaps be an understatement. Its release has been substantially delayed multiple times, first into 2022 and then again into 2023. Further, Avalanche Software is now spreading out the release of Hogwarts Legacy depending on the platform. PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S will be launching first, with other platforms to follow. That, hopefully, will mean a much more optimized and impressive PS5 and Xbox Series X/S experience.RELATED: Video Compares Old Harry Potter Game Graphics to Hogwarts LegacyThe performance modes for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S will allow Hogwarts Legacy players to choose their preference for graphical fidelity. What's interesting about Hogwarts Legacy is that Avalanche Software says that it will have multiple, some of which have yet to be officially confirmed. The two it did announce are based on framerate. The two confirmed performance options for Hogwarts Legacy include Performance Mode, which will target 60 fps, and Fidelity Mode, which targets 30 fps.

While the other performance modes that Avalanche has planned haven't been confirmed yet, it's easy to imagine what they could be. A performance mode targeting 4K resolution seems most likely. A 1080p mode could be possible, too, though the 60 fps and 30 fps modes may cover it. Perhaps there will be other modes tied to specific visual features, like ray tracing or open-world draw distance.

The more options that Avalanche provides Hogwarts Legacy players, the better. It's typical for console releases to get two or at most three performance mode options, which is often more than enough for an average PS5 or Xbox Series X/S player. More options are better, though, allowing players to customize the game to suit both their preferences and their TV/monitor setup.

While Warner Bros. having to delay the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions of Hogwarts Legacy feels bad for players who haven't bought a new console, it should work out for the better. Avalanche will be able to optimize Hogwarts Legacy on its platforms as they launch, like with these multiple performance modes for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Hogwarts Legacy releases February 10 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, followed by an April 4 release on PS4 and Xbox One, and a July 25 launch on Switch.
