Over the last few decades, the Wizarding World has been gradually getting bigger and bigger, with more books, plays, movies, and now video games all continuing to flesh out the Harry Potter universe. And over the years, fans have been introduced to a number of powerful witches and wizards, all capable of facing off against the worst horrors of the magical world. But despite fans being shown some truly talented magic users, they all pale in comparison to Hogwarts Legacy's main character.

Despite all the very valid criticism it's faced, Hogwarts Legacy has gone on to sell incredibly well, and a large part of that is the game's core premise of giving fans the Harry Potter power fantasy they've always dreamed of. But while most fans were expecting a Hogwarts life-sim-like game, where they just play as a regular student, Hogwarts Legacy actually puts players in the boots one of the most powerful characters in the entire Harry Potter franchise.

Hogwarts Legacy's Main Character is Truly Overpowered

Fans have seen many powerful Harry Potter witches and wizards over the years. Throughout the mainline series, Dumbledore is always portrayed as this all-knowing, all-powerful figure that's the only wizard capable of defeating Voldemort and his Death Eaters. Wielding the Elder Wand, Dumbledore can conjure walls of water, shred countless shards of glass into sand, and apparate with ease. Voldemort is also, naturally, an incredibly powerful wizard, whose abilities are second to none. Voldemort is only defeated through circumstance and hubris, with his actual magical abilities easily being the most powerful the Wizarding World has ever seen.

The expanded material for Harry Potter also introduces its fair share of immensely powerful witches and wizards, including Fantastic Beasts' Grindelwald, a dark wizard who planned on using his innate abilities to rule the Muggle world. Fantastic Beasts' Credence is another very powerful wizard, capable of transforming into a chaotic and destructive dark cloud known as an Obscurus.

Hogwarts Legacy's main character might be even more powerful than every other wizard mentioned here. On just a surface level, Hogwarts Legacy's player-character clearly has an innate talent for magic, as although they haven't practiced with magic until the age of 15, they manage to learn some of the most complex spells within literal seconds. Similarly, the ability to string multiple spells together with ease is no simple feat. Based on their ability to wield regular magic alone, Hogwarts Legacy's main character is one of the most powerful wizards in the Harry Potter universe.

On top of that, Hogwarts Legacy's protagonist also has the mysterious ability to wield "Ancient Magic." Though it's never really explained, the player-character's inherent ability to wield Ancient Magic lets them tear through enemies with ease, granting them the ability to make their targets explode with the mysterious energy. During the course of Hogwarts Legacy's story, the protagonist not only manages to defeat Ranrok and his Goblin rebellion but also armies of poachers and Ashwinders. This mere fifth-year student can even battle trolls, dragons, and Graphorns single-handedly, despite this being their first year at a wizarding school. Even when compared to some of the strongest magic-wielders in the Harry Potter universe, Hogwarts Legacy's main character still seems like they'd come out on top. This is especially true as they're able to wield all three Unforgivable Curses with absolute ease, and seemingly with no consequences from the Wizarding World, giving them an absurd amount of freedom.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. PS4 and Xbox One ports are scheduled to release on April 4. The Nintendo Switch version is arriving on July 25, 2023.
