There have been quite a few Harry Potter video games in the past, but Avalanche Software's Hogwarts Legacy promises to be the most ambitious yet. Although the game will remain faithful to the source material, it is set several centuries before Harry ever steps foot in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, giving players a chance to explore what the wizarding world was like before the rise of Lord Voldemort. After creating their playable character, players are enrolled in Hogwarts where they are sorted into one of the four houses and uncover mysteries while trying to handle being a magical student.
As the release date for Hogwarts Legacy draws nearer, Avalanche Software has been revealing more information about the upcoming game, including showing off the various towers of Hogwarts Castle. However, leaks have also begun to appear. One of the leaks appears to outline what gamers can expect from the various special editions of Hogwarts Legacy. If the leak is true, gamers can look forward to some pretty special packages that will be sure to please Harry Potter fans.
Hogwarts Legacy Collector's Edition Appears To Have Leaked
The first leaks of possible special edition contents came in June when Reddit user u/opalelement made a post on r/GamingLeaksandRumors reporting that they had found a list of extras for game editions when viewing the source code of the Hogwarts Legacy website's home page. Although the user was unable to sort out which editions each item belonged to, the extras included the following: a Thestral Mount, a Dark Arts Cosmetics Pack, a Dark Arts Battle Arena, a Dark Arts Garrison Hat, a Kelpie Robe, a steel case, a Floating Ancient Magic Wand with Book, and 72 hours early access.
While some items are self-explanatory, others are a tad more mysterious, which has led gamers to speculate what the various labels might mean. For instance, the Floating Ancient Magic Wand may be a physical item similar to Thor's Mjolnir hammer which comes with God of War Ragnarok Jotnar Edition, while the Thestral Mount may be an in-game item. While the leak is exciting, it is worth remembering that Avalanche Software could have easily been using placeholders and that none of the listed items had been officially confirmed.
Nevertheless, greater evidence that the leak may be accurate came a few days ago when another Reddit user u/BatttleDashBR made a post on r/HarryPotterGame revealing that they had managed to unearth further information about the various editions, this time with an accompanying image. The image showed that the previously listed items would all be part of the Hogwarts Legacy Collector's Edition, while the Deluxe Edition would have all the items except the steel case and the Floating Ancient Magic Wand with Book.
Hogwarts Legacy Is Coming Soon
The most interesting item listed is the Floating Ancient Magic Wand, and it remains to be seen what precisely it is. Depending on how gimmicky things get, it could end up being a cool physical item that makes the Collector's Edition a must-buy for Harry Potter fans, although it could drive the price of the edition up. It is also worth noting that in the Deluxe Edition category, the Dark Arts Garrison Hat and the 72 hours of early access are listed as Digital Deluxe-only items.
Hogwarts Legacy appears to be stuffed full of features, and this may help it to be the ultimate wizarding school simulator. However, it should take care to not try to do too much at once. If the game edition leaks are correct, it seems the developers have a keen eye for what would make fans happy, as each edition is filled with delightful Harry Potter-related treats.
Hogwarts Legacy is scheduled to release in 2022 on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
