Hogwarts Legacy tells the story of a fifth-year student during their time at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. While studying for their OWLs should be the priority, players can feel free to explore the game's vast world to their heart's content by any means they want to. That said, exploring can be quite a tedious process without a broom or a mount.

Players can obtain up to thirteen unique brooms while playing Hogwarts Legacy. While the majority of them can be purchased from various vendors scattered across the world, some brooms can only be acquired by completing challenges. These brooms are arguably the most difficult to get, but those short Galleons may struggle in affording the more accessible ones.

Updated June 16, 2023, by Justin Flynn: The world of Hogwarts Legacy is quite vast, so players who hope to explore every part of the map will likely aim to do so while flying their broom. Not only will owning a broom make traveling across the map a much less arduous task, but it will also grant players access to a few areas that can only be reached while flying.

Those who hoped that acquiring a broom was the first step toward playing a game of Quidditch in Hogwarts Legacy will be quite disappointed by the sport's absence from the game. Thankfully, the upcoming Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions game is sure to satisfy fans of the sport when it eventually releases; until then, players can continue improving their flying abilities in Hogwarts Legacy.

How To Unlock Broom Flight

Hogwarts Legacy Professor Chiyo Kogawa

Players will acquire their first broom after completing Hogwarts Legacy's sixteenth main quest, Flying Class. This quest can be started by traveling to the Flying Class Lawn Floo Flame, just outside the Bell Tower Wing, and interacting with the glowing circle on the ground. If players arrive at class in the middle of the night, they can advance time by selecting the "Wait" command in the Map menu.

After the protagonist successfully summons a broom to their hand, they will mount it, and Madam Kogawa will command them to fly through three separate rings.

Once all three rings have been flown through, the protagonist will be tasked with flying away from the courtyard and flying through another series of rings. Th quest tasks players with familiarizing themselves with the mechanics of flying and challenges them to think on their feet or, in this case, on their broom.

Everett Clopton will join the protagonist during the challenge and will offer to take them on a brief detour if they wish to see more of what Hogwarts has to offer. When the tour ends, both students will return to the Flying Class Lawn, and Madam Kogawa will scold them for disobeying her instructions.

When the class ends, Everett Clopton will inform the protagonist that Albie Weekes is always looking for students to test out his latest brooms. Those who wish to take to the sky as quickly as possible should then set off to his store, Spintwitches Sporting Needs, in Hogsmeade to buy their first broom.

While interacting with Albie Weekes, players need only purchase one broom to gain the ability to fly, but those who wish to obtain all the brooms available in the game will need to purchase them all.

Thankfully, each broom available at Spintwitches Sporting Needs only costs 600 Galleons, and though this might sound like a lot, it's quite cheap when compared to the prices other vendors charge. Spintwitches Sporting Needs sells a total of five brooms:

  • Wind Wisp Broom
  • Ember Dash Broom
  • Hogwarts House Broom
  • Moon Trimmer Broom
  • Yew Weaver Broom

All Traveling Vendor Brooms

Aside from Spintwitches Sporting Needs, players can find a total of four other brooms by exploring the Highlands and interacting with traveling vendors. Not all vendors sell brooms, however, so players will need to seek out the select few that do. These particular vendors can be found stationed in various spots around the map, but finding them can be quite difficult, seeing as they do not appear in any of the towns.

Sky Scythe Broom

Leopold Babcocke's store in Hogwarts Legacy

The Sky Scythe Broom can be found and purchased for 5,000 Galleons from Leopold Babcocke's store outside Hogsmeade Station. To find this vendor, the player should travel east from Hogwarts or south from Hogsmeade until they reach the railway line. From there, they should follow the track until they have reached Hogsmeade Station, where they will find Leopold standing behind the eastern wall.

Family Antique Broom

Priya Treadwell's store in Hogwarts Legacy

The Antique Family Broom can be purchased from Priya Treadwell in the Feldcroft region. To find her store, the player should fast-travel to Irondale and fly southwest until they reach the ruins beside the Battle Arena. Upon finding the store, they can then purchase the Family Antique Broom for 2,500 Galleons.

Silver Arrow Broom

Arn's store in Hogwarts Legacy

In order to unlock the vendor who sells the Silver Arrow Broom, players will first need to complete the Carted Away side quest that becomes available after completing the Tomes and Tribulations main quest. Once this quest has been completed, the player should travel to Arn's shop just south of Hogwarts, where they can purchase the Silver Arrow Broom for 5,000 Galleons.

Aeromancer Broom

Rohan Prakash's store in Hogwarts Legacy

The Aeromancer Broom can be bought from Rohan Prakash's store just southwest of Marunweem Bridge. To reach this location, the player will first need to battle their way through the Goblin encampment at East South Sea Bog until they reach North Poidsear Coast. From there, they should fly southeast until they find Marunweem Bridge and should then travel southwest. Upon locating Rohan Prakash's store, the Aeromancer Broom can be purchased for 3,000 Galleons.

All Challenge Brooms

Finding a Balloon Cluster in Hogwarts Legacy

To unlock the remaining four brooms available in Hogwarts Legacy, the player will need to complete a series of pretty straightforward challenges. These challenges require the player to explore the world, locate Balloon Clusters, and pop them by flying directly into the balloons they find. In order to successfully pop an entire cluster, the player must pop a total of five balloons in each area. Upon doing so, a prompt will appear, informing the player that they have completed the task and successfully taken out a Balloon Cluster.

Each broom obtained by completing these challenges requires a different number of Balloon Clusters to be found and popped, so the player will need to do a great deal of exploring if they hope to find them all. Finding and popping all 32 Balloon Clusters will unlock these four brooms:

  • Night Dancer Broom
  • Lickety Swift Broom
  • Wild Fire Broom
  • Bright Spark Broom

How To Upgrade Brooms

Owning all brooms in Hogwarts Legacy is one thing, but upgrading them is something else entirely. Though it may initially seem like a pretty long process, upgrading one broom automatically upgrades them all, even the brooms players have yet to acquire. This can make the process of upgrading all brooms much more bearable.

Unfortunately, it isn't possible to fully upgrade a broom the moment one is acquired, as certain quests need to be completed before each upgrade becomes available. Albie Weekes will provide the protagonist with three upgrades for their broom, but only after players have reached specific points in Hogwarts Legacy's main story.

The First Broom Upgrade

Players will unlock their first broom upgrade after they have purchased a broom from Albie Weekes and completed the Flight Test side quest. This quest becomes available immediately after the protagonist purchases their first broom; once it begins, players must head to the Quidditch Pitch at Hogwarts and speak to Imelda Reyes.

Imelda will challenge the protagonist to a flying race, and if players complete the course in under two minutes and twenty seconds, they will beat her score. The quest can then be completed by returning to Spintwitches Sporting Needs and speaking with Albie Weekes.

The first broom upgrade can be purchased from Spintwitches Sporting Needs for 1,000 Galleons after Percival Rackham's Trial has been completed.

The Second Broom Upgrade

To unlock the second broom upgrade, players will need to complete the Sweeping the Competition side quest and best Imelda Reyes in another race. This side quest becomes available after completing Percival Rackham's Trial and purchasing the first broom upgrade. Upon beginning it, Albie Weekes will point the protagonist in the direction of Irondale, where Imelda is waiting to challenge her fellow students to a race.

To beat Imelda's score this time, players must complete the race in under two minutes and twenty-six seconds, after which they can return to Albie Weekes to speak with him to end the quest.

Once players complete the In the Shadow of the Mine quest, they will receive an owl from Albie, asking the protagonist to return to the store to purchase the second broom upgrade for 4,000 Galleons.

The Third Broom Upgrade

Hogwarts Legacy The Sky is the Limit Coastal Broom trial

Players will acquire the third and final broom upgrade after they complete The Sky is the Limit, a side quest that unlocks after purchasing the second broom upgrade from Albie Weekes. Like with the previous two upgrades, players must compete in a race against Imelda to acquire it.

To begin the race, players must travel west of the Clagmar Coast Floo Flame and speak to Imelda, who will then challenge the protagonist to compete in the most difficult race so far. To win, players must finish the race in under two minutes and forty-two seconds.

If the race is won, Imelda will congratulate the protagonist for their performance; to complete the quest, the player must return to Spintwitches Sporting Needs and speak to Albie Weekes. Albie Weekes will later send an owl to inform the protagonist that their broom upgrade is ready. When players are ready to get it, they can return to Spintwitches Sporting Needs to purchase it for 7,500 Galleons.

Each broom upgrade, when purchased, will improve the broom's speed and acceleration, allowing players to hold down the boost button for much longer. Though the boost meter will eventually deplete if it's used for too long, the speed at which a fully upgraded broom's boost meter refills allows players to start boosting again almost immediately.

Players who wish to boost indefinitely can also do so by flying close to the ground and holding the boost button, as doing so will prevent the boost meter from depleting.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with a Switch version scheduled to release on November 14, 2023.
