During the course of their year at Hogwarts, players will engage in a series of missions and quests, some optional and others that must be completed. As they progress through the story in Hogwarts Legacy the missions tend to get harder and harder with some quests causing players quite a headache.

6 Crossed Wands: Round 3

Crossed Wands secret duelling club side quest in Hogwarts Legacy

Crossed Wands is a not-so-secret dueling club that takes place on the ground floor of the Clock Tower. In the early stages of their Hogwarts Legacy journey, players will need to complete the three rounds of Crossed Wands, eventually becoming school champion in the final round.

This final round, however, is no easy ordeal despite still taking place near the start of the game. To complete Crossed Wands: Round 3, players will have to take on four of Hogwarts' best all at once, although they may call upon Sebastian or Natty for help. On the hardest difficulty, this mission can take quite a while to beat, especially on the first playthrough as the complexities of dueling are still a mystery.

5 San Bakar's Trial

Hogwarts Legacy Male Graphorn

The Keeper Trials in Hogwarts Legacy are the core of the main story, but by far the hardest is San Bakar's Trial which sees players attempt to tame a mighty Graphorn, locally known as the Lord of the Shore. To tame the Graphorn, players must prove their prowess and defeat him, which is no easy feat.

Thankfully after taming this mighty beast, players are able to ride the Graphorn, smashing through enemies and unlocking one of the best mounts in Hogwarts Legacy for the rest of the game.

4 In The Shadow Of The Relic

Hogwarts Legacy Solomon Sallow

In the Shadow of the Relic is not only one of the saddest missions in Hogwarts Legacy but also one of the hardest. This quest is the last of Sebastian Sallow's relationship quests and amid all the drama, players will find themselves not only fighting a host of uncontrollable Inferi but also Sebastian's uncle and former Auror, Solomon Sallow.

To complete In the Shadow of the Relic, players must juggle fighting these two different forces at once, always keeping their eyes open for surprise attacks from behind. Having upgraded gear and an inventory full of potions and plants is strongly advised, and players should keep in mind the fact that Inferi can only take damage from fire spells.

3 The Hall Of Herodiana

Hogwarts Legacy The Hall Of Herodiana

Not all of the hardest missions in Hogwarts Legacy are intense battles against powerful foes, some are instead more cerebral tests. One such mission is the optional side quest The Hall of Herodiana which players can start by speaking to Sophronia Franklin just beyond the Charms classroom.

After entering the Hall of Herodiana players will find one of the best puzzles in Hogwarts Legacy. They will have to use Depulso, Accio, and their wits to figure out how to reach the other end of each of the three chambers. There is also extra loot that players can find, but reaching said loot is a puzzle in itself.

2 Wand Mastery, Defeat Victor Rookwood

Victor Rookwood

Victor Rookwood is the main dark wizard in Hogwarts Legacy and while his reign of terror pales in comparison with that which will come at the hands of you-know-who, players will still have a tough time defeating him in the Wand Mastery mission. After being kidnaped by Rookwood, players will first have to fight through waves of his loyal supporters, crossing wands with Rookwood after each wave.

One of the hardest things about this mission is that many players won't be prepared for a fight as they are only expecting to pick up a new wand from Ollivanders. Players that find themselves battling dozens of dark witches and wizards without Wiggenweld potions will be in for a particularly rough time. To come out victorious players will need to have brushed up on their advanced wizarding skills.

1 The Final Repository, Defeat Ranrok

Ranrok in Hogwarts Legacy

The hardest mission by far in Hogwarts Legacy, and the penultimate test to see if players can save Hogwarts, is The Final Repository. After battling through swarms of unfriendly goblins and trolls, with some unexpected help, players will finally reach Ranrok for the ultimate showdown.

If players are expecting a simple duel they will sadly be mistaken as Ranrok is quick to possess the Ancient Magic repository he had been endlessly searching for. Upon acquiring this power, Ranrok will turn into a dragon, not only becoming much harder to vanquish but also becoming unrelenting in his attacks. To beat Ranrok, players will need to have stocked up on potions, especially the Wiggenweld potion as they can expect to take plenty of damage.

Hogwarts Legacy is out now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, with PS4 and Xbox One versions coming May 5 and a Switch release dropping July 25.
