Hogwarts Legacy players are able to unlock free cosmetics to use in the Wizarding World, through an in-game promotion. With the game's release fast approaching, the marketing for Hogwarts Legacy is finally ramping up.
While fans of the Harry Potter franchise are looking forward to the upcoming game, the road to release has been mired with controversy. J.K. Rowling's outspoken comments on the transgender community have left many fans feeling as though they can't support the title. The developer of the game, Avalanche Studios, has done all it can to disassociate itself from the comments, even adding a transgender character to Hogwarts Legacy. Despite Avalanche Studios' best attempts, Rowling has continued to remind the public that she stands to profit from the game's success, cementing the stance of many fans.
The two rewards are exclusive to this promotion, so players have no choice but to take part if they want to collect everything in-game. The items in question are the Beaked Skull Mask and a House Fan-atic School Robe, which changes depending on the player's Hogwarts House. With character customization a key feature of Hogwarts Legacy, it's worth taking a short amount of time to get these items, given they're totally free. Interestingly, there are other promotions occurring for free cosmetics in-game, with Hogwarts Legacy offering four exclusive items via Twitch drops, too. Other than these free promotions, it seems that players can get every other in-game cosmetic directly through gameplay, with no microtransactions to be found.
The promotion for free cosmetics requires players to have a Harry Potter Fan Club and WB Games account, which are both free to create. First, players must take the Harry Potter Fan Club test to be given a Hogwarts House. With this done, players should head to the Wizarding World website, and find the link that says "Free Hogwarts Legacy items exclusively for Fan Club Members," before clicking on "Connect Now." From this link, players will be able to sign in to their WB Games account, where the accounts will now be linked. Players can also obtain extra cosmetic content through the Hogwarts Legacy: Deluxe Edition.
Despite much of the early controversy, Hogwarts Legacy has been well-received by critics. Special praise has been reserved for the sheer scale of the game, which allows fans to finally live out their Wizarding fantasies. Some are already beginning to speculate about a possible sequel, which is surely planned if the game matches commercial expectations. With the Fantastic Beasts film franchise reportedly on ice, the Harry Potter series needs a hit and Hogwarts Legacy certainly has the potential to be the title that reignites public interest in the series.
Hogwarts Legacy launches February 10 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, with PS4 and Xbox One versions coming April 4, and a Switch port releasing July 25.
