Merlin Trials are scattered around everywhere on the massive map of Hogwarts Legacy. The Trials are a form of challenge that offers players a small puzzle to solve. Every time a certain number of puzzles are solved, the protagonist gets the chance to increase the Gear equip load.
Among all the available Regions, Feldcroft is one of the few ones that contain more than 10 Merlin Trials in Hogwarts Legacy. Some are next to each other and can be reached immediately by traveling to a Floo Flame while the others are a bit far away and require a mount in Hogwarts Legacy.
Updated on July 30, 2023, by Nahda Nabiilah: Spells play a huge role in the gameplay of Hogwarts Legacy, whether it’s for combat or solving puzzles. The legendary sorcerer Merlin left various puzzles scattered around the world of Hogwarts Legacy and Students are tasked with completing the Trials. While exploring Feldcroft, players will notice that some of the riddles can't be solved as they require certain Spells that haven’t been learned yet. This is why Witches and Wizards must always come prepared with the necessary Spells, as it makes solving Feldcroft’s Merlin Trials easier.
Feldcroft Region Merlin Trials In Hogwarts Legacy
There are a total of 16 Merlin Trials found in Feldcroft Region. Each one requires Mallowsweet Leaves to activate. The Trials are:
- Stone Pillar Puzzle x5
- Stone Cube Puzzle x1
- Platform Bridge Puzzle x2
- Brazier Puzzle x2
- Orbs Pillars Puzzle x3
- Broken Statue Puzzle x1
- Stone Sphere Puzzle x1
- Firefly Puzzle x1
Merlin Trial #1 - Stone Pillar Puzzle
Head to West Hogwarts Valley Floo Flame in the northern part of Feldcroft Region and go south to reach the Merlin Trial. To solve it, players must use Confringo to destroy five stone pillars. Use Revelio to pinpoint the pillars’ locations.
Merlin Trial #2 - Stone Cube Puzzle
From the first location, head north to reach the second Merlin Trial. Players must defeat the enemies before activating the Trial. Here, using Flipendo is crucial to rotate all three symbol cubes and match the top to the ones on the bottom pillar.
First Cube Puzzle Solution
Head to the pillar to the east and use Flipendo on the first symbol then repeat it on the second one until the top and the bottom symbols match.
Second Cube Puzzle Solution
Go to the pillar to the west and cast the same spell twice from side #1, then once on the second and third symbols to match them with the lower part.
Third Cube Puzzle Solution
Walk south from the second pillar to reach the third one and cast Flipendo once on the first symbol to solve it.
Merlin Trial #3 - Platform Bridge Puzzle
Fast travel to the North Feldcroft Floo Flame and fly west to the third Merlin Trial. This one however is guarded by enemies. Upon defeating the Goblins, activate the Trial. To solve the puzzle in Hogwarts Legacy, head south and climb the wooden platform to the highest level then jump on the white platforms without falling to the ground.
Merlin Trial #4 - Stone Pillar Puzzle
From the previous location, go northwest to reach the fourth Trial. Same as the first one, use Confringo to destroy the five pillars.
- One pillar is west, across the Merlin altar.
- One is found alone south.
- Two pillars are east.
- The final pillar is hidden behind some thorns southwest.
Merlin Trial #5 - Platform Bridge Puzzle
From Rookwood Castle Floo Flame, head northwest to find the fifth Merlin Trial. Activate the Trial and jump on all the platforms without missing one or falling in the water.
Merlin Trial #6 - Brazier Puzzle
Fly north from the fifth Trial to reach the sixth. There are three braziers players must light with a fire spell in Hogwarts Legacy. All need to be lit before one reaches the ground, so this puzzle requires speed.
Merlin Trial #7 - Orbs Pillars Puzzle
Players can walk or fly east from their current location to reach the seventh Trial. Nine orbs must be destroyed to solve this Merlin Trial.
- The first three can be seen right next to the Trial platform.
- Three more are seen by heading southwest.
- The last three are on a separate platform northwest of the camp.
Merlin Trial #8 - Broken Statue Puzzle
Summon a Broom in Hogwarts Legacy and fly southeast to the next Trial. Reparo is crucial to repair the three broken statues. Use Revelio to mark the statues’ locations.
- The first is northwest, close to the altar.
- Second one is north.
- The last statue is found by climbing the slope to the south.
Merlin Trial #9 - Stone Pillar Puzzle
From South Feldcroft Floo Flame, proceed northwest to find the Trial. As usual, five pillars must be destroyed using the Confringo spell in Hogwarts Legacy.
- One pillar is northeast.
- Another is west.
- One is south, guarded by Cottongrass Dugbog.
- One can be found south, on top of a hill.
- One is southeast, on top of a hill.
Merlin Trial #10 - Stone Sphere Puzzle
Head southeast by foot or Broom to reach the hidden Merlin Trial in Hogwarts Legacy. To solve it, players must guide a sphere back to its place. First, summon the Broom and fly northeast to find the sphere perched on a hill. Next, keep using Depulso to push it down the slope, so it can roll back to its place.
If the sphere gets stuck somewhere, use Wingardium Leviosa to levitate it.
Merlin Trial #11 - Stone Pillar Puzzle
Fast travel to Feldcroft Catacomb and go north to find the eleventh Merlin Trial. Equip Confringo to destroy the five stone pillars.
- Two are southeast, and one of them is hidden behind some rocks blocking a legendary chest in Hogwarts Legacy.
- One is north.
- One is west, perched on a hill.
- The fifth pillar is southeast.
Merlin Trial #12 - Orbs Pillars Puzzle
From the previous Trial, head north to reach the next one. Upon activating the Trial, protagonists need to destroy nine orbs starting with three right next to the Merlin altar. The rest can be found north of the altar.
Merlin Trial #13 - Firefly Puzzle
Teleport back to the Feldcroft Catacomb and head east to the Merlin Trial. There are three Moonstone pillars in Hogwarts Legacy that require fireflies to activate.
- The first group of fireflies can be found west, on top of a hill. Use a Broom to go up and cast Lumos to guide it back.
- Go south to find another group of fireflies down the slope. Guide it back using the same method.
- The last group of fireflies is found by climbing the stairs found northeast.
Merlin Trial #14 - Stone Pillar Puzzle
From the thirteenth Trial, summon a flying mount in Hogwarts Legacy or a Broom to fly northeast. Once all the enemies are taken care of, activate the Merlin Trial. Cast Confringo and destroy all five pillars after pinpointing their locations using Revelio.
- One is northeast, a bit far away from the altar.
- Two can be found west.
- One is east, near a tent.
- The final pillar is north.
Merlin Trial #15 - Brazier Puzzle
Travel to Irondale Floo Flame and run west to activate the Trial. Three braziers must be lit using a fire spell.
- Head east and light the one next to the bridge.
- Turn west and light the second brazier.
- The last one is southwest of the Merlin altar.
Merlin Trial #16 - Orbs Pillars Puzzle
The last Merlin Trial in Feldcroft is in the same village as the previous one, which means that players can go by foot rather than using a mount in Hogwarts Legacy. Similar to some previous Trials, players need to destroy nine orbs which can be marked using Revelio.
- The first three are found south, next to Althea Twiddle's house.
- The second three are northeast.
- The final three are found west.
All Necessary Spells To Solve Merlin Trials In Feldcroft Region
Most of the Spells are learned during classes at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Confringo
- Puzzle: Stone Pillar Puzzle And Brazier Puzzle
Confringo is taught by Sebastian during In the Shadow of the UndercroftQuest in Hogwarts Legacy. Students simply need to follow the Slytherin to the Defense Against the Dark Art Tower and chat with him for a while before learning the Spell in the Undercroft.
The Spell can be mainly used for combat as it deals a powerful explosion upon contact, which is why it’s needed for the Stone Pillar Puzzle. While Incendio is also a Fire Spell, it won’t work all the time for the Brazier Puzzle since it's used to attack nearby enemies, making Confringo the perfect Spell thanks to its long range.
Flipendo
- Puzzle: Stone Cube Puzzle
Flipendo is taught by the Herbology Teacher upon finishing Professor Garlick's Assignment 2 Quest in Hogwarts Legacy. Players must complete two steps to trigger it, which are:
- Grow and harvest Fluxweed.
- Acquire all three combat plants and use them simultaneously.
Reparo
- Puzzle: Broken Statue Puzzle
Professor Ronen will teach Students Reparo quite early in Hogwarts Legacy. After attending the first Defense Against the Dark Art and Charms Classes, players need to complete a small task for Professor Ronen to learn the Spell.
Depulso
- Puzzle: Stone Sphere Puzzle
To learn Depulso in Hogwarts Legacy, Students need to complete Professor Sharp’s Assignment 1, which includes:
- Acquire and use a Focus Potion.
- Acquire Maxima and Edurus Potions, and use them simultaneously.
Lumos
- Puzzle: Firefly Puzzle
Lumos is taught by Professor Fig while completing one of the first Quests in Hogwarts Legacy, The Path to Hogwarts.
