A dedicated gamer came up with an ingenious way to avoid backtracking in Hogwarts Legacy, by creating a cheat sheet for the game. Hogwarts Legacy is an immense open-world game that is filled with tons of different activities to partake in. After a few main missions, the players are free to explore the detailed and magical world of the game. However, many will experience a slight inconvenience, as not all side activities that can be found by free-roaming can be completed until later on in the game.

While exploring the wizarding world, Hogwarts Legacy players may encounter locked doors, which can only be opened by Alohomora, a spell that will only be unlocked after completing a great deal of main missions. Throughout their adventures, gamers can also find locked eye chests, which are impossible to open without using the Disillusionment spell, which, again, can only be unlocked after more than a dozen missions in. These are just some of the few examples that can make backtracking a real problem for those who just want to avoid it. After all, backtracking can quickly turn a pleasant session of gameplay into a chore.

Fortunately, a Reddit user that goes by the name of The_Partisan_Spy has devised a clever cheat sheet that can help gamers to completely avert backtracking in Hogwarts Legacy. The elaborate cheat sheet reveals at which point in the main questline the useful spells are able to be unlocked, while also showing players which spell can be used for each individual side activity in the game. For example, to fully be able to complete the Merlin Trials, players have to first unlock most of the spells found in the game. The last spell used for this is Flipendo, which can be obtained after completing the 28th main mission. That means that players must finish the aforementioned quests before attempting to solve all Merlin Trials.

The Hogwarts Legacy community is simultaneously impressed and confused by the complicated cheat sheet. While at first glance the map certainly seems intimidating, after a second look it gets much easier to follow. According to the sheet, players must first complete a total of 37 main missions, in order to completely skip the game's tiresome backtracking. The page also shows the total number of side activities and collectibles in the game.

The_Partisan_Spy’s cheat sheet can be a tremendous time saver for Hogwarts Legacy players who are looking to start their lengthy wizarding journey. It has recently been revealed that Hogwarts Legacy has a low completion rate, and backtracking can certainly be one of the reasons players aren't finishing the game.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The game will release for PS4 and Xbox One on May 5, and July 25 for Nintendo Switch.
