It appears that Hogwarts Legacy will contain choice and action-based endings for players to unlock. Though there’s still quite some time before the release of the game, fans were treated to a 45-minute Hogwarts Legacy showcase where game director Alan Tew provided more details regarding gameplay and mechanics. The showcase only further confirmed there will be much to uncover in the upcoming Wizarding game.
The Hogwarts Legacy showcase offered a preview into mechanics like character creation, a dive into what combat would be like for the game, and a tour of the Hogwarts grounds. The student companions for each Hogwarts house have also been revealed, with some detail given about each one. Fans are expecting the game to cover a lot of ground as far as who and what will be included, and many have built up high expectations. Perhaps the recently mentioned choice-based feature is a way of exploring the Harry Potter material fans are eagerly expecting.
News about the choice and action-based nature of the game’s ending came from a brief comment by Tew during the YouTube showcase. During gameplay, it became more and more apparent that game progress unlocked more interaction choices players could choose while dealing with NPC Hogwarts students. Tew stated that “different interaction with different characters can also offer different choice points for the player, and then some of those can affect things game-wide; some of these affect characters’ lives, the ending of the game.”

It’s no surprise that an RPG game would have a choice-based mechanic for fans to explore different outcomes, but it is the first time such a mechanic has been implemented in a major Harry Potter game on such a wide scale. The developer’s decision to give players more control over their Hogwarts adventure might be ground-breaking and influence Harry Potter game development going forward. Though not a new mechanic, choice-based games have been praised by gamers for many years due to adding more replayability and story substance.
Ever since details about the possibility of a new Harry Potter RPG were made all the way back in 2018, fans of the franchise have been excited for its release and any official details about the game. The setting, plot, and characters will hopefully add even more to the lore and magic of the wizarding world and live up to fandom standards. Hogwarts Legacy launches on February 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A Switch version is also in development.
