Hogwarts Legacy is an upcoming open world RPG set in the Harry Potter universe, and a clip featuring the Edurus Potion is a prime example of how standard RPG mechanics mesh with the Wizarding World. The scope for Hogwarts Legacy is wide and ambitious, allowing its players to explore more than just the hallways, dormitories, and common rooms of Hogwarts, as other iconic locations such as Hogsmeade or the Forbidden Forest will also feature in the game. Players will be able to use a customizable broom (as well as mounts) to navigate the massive world in Hogwarts Legacy, but when they're not busy exploring the world, the game will also offer the art of potion crafting.

Potion crafting in Hogwarts Legacy will allow players the ability to gain an extra edge, as gathering materials throughout their extracurricular activities and brewing potions in the classroom can provide more than just the standard healing elixirs like the Wiggenweld. Other concoctions such as the Felix Felicis and even invisibility potions will make an appearance in Hogwarts Legacy, but the Edurus Potion is a newcomer to the Wizarding World that offers a more practical effect to its imbiber.

Namely, the Edurus Potion turns the player's skin into a molten rock, providing a significant defensive bonus over the course of its duration. The effect was seen in earlier footage from Hogwarts Legacy, and while players were aware that a protection elixir was slated to appear in the game, it's still great to finally put the two concepts together. While the notion of students using performance-enhancing drugs is amusing, potion making is an easy win for Avalanche Software to include in Hogwarts Legacy.

The highlight posted on Twitter by the official Hogwarts Legacy account was kind enough to include a recipe on how players can brew their own Edurus Potion. One batch of Ashwinder Eggs and a piece of Mongrel Fur seemingly equals one Edurus Potion, and given how simple the ingredients sound, it implies that Avalanche considers Edurus Potions to be a staple in every witch or wizard's arsenal. Given that Felix Felicis is a PlayStation exclusive for Hogwarts Legacy, it's good that players from other platforms will still have plenty of cool elixirs to brew.

While the different exclusive content and release dates for Hogwarts Legacy can be confusing, the excitement for the project has never been higher in the Harry Potter community. It's the Wizarding World game they've always dreamed of having, and provided Avalanche sticks the landing in February, it may easily become the quintessential Harry Potter experience, and one hopefully removed from the controversies surrounding its author.

Hogwarts Legacy launches February 10 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, with PS4 and Xbox One versions coming April 4 and a Nintendo Switch port dropping July 25.
