As with any good RPG, Hogwarts Legacy is packed to the brim with a diverse cast of characters, each having their own backstories and unique personality. While players will get to learn plenty about Hogwarts Legacy's companions like Poppy Sweeting and Sebastian Sallow throughout their journey, the school's teaching board is kept more mysterious, and Professor Matilda Weasley is one of the most interesting characters in the entire game.

The Weasley name will be familiar to just about anyone who has ever heard of the Harry Potter franchise, with Ron Weasley appearing as a main protagonist throughout the book series. But the Weasley family goes much further back than Ron and his charismatic siblings. In fact, the Weasleys are one of the longest-running, "pure-blood" families in the Wizarding World, even if every generation of the family would express hatred for that title. Matilda Weasley was no exception, spending her time as deputy headmistress of Hogwarts serving as an ally to both pure-blood and Muggle-born witches and wizards.

Matilda Weasley - Hogwarts' Deputy Headmistress and Professor of Transfiguration

Professor Weasley in Hogwarts Legacy

Born sometime before 1870, Matilda Weasley attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, just like the rest of her family before and after. Also like the rest of her family, Matilda was sorted into Gryffindor house. During her second year at Hogwarts, Matilda stumbled upon the castle's kitchen and met a kind house-elf named Deek. Matilda grew very fond of Deek during her time at Hogwarts, and the two even stumbled upon the Room of Requirement at one point during her tutelage.

After Matilda graduated from Hogwarts, she quickly landed a position at the Ministry of Magic, which had only been formed around 100 years earlier. Matilda's role at the Ministry was a Curse-Breaker, a title that referred to any witch or wizard that specialized in the removal of cursed objects - and sometimes people. Interestingly, Matilda's future ancestor Bill Weasley would also join the Ministry as a Curse-Breaker. Over the course of just a few years, Matilda Weasley received a slew of promotions due to her high level of skill and her strong work ethic. While in a senior position at the Ministry of Magic, Matilda met Chiyo Kowaga - a member of the Japanese Ministry of Magic - who she would keep in contact with and eventually offer the role of Hogwarts' Flying Instructor to.

At some point in her Ministry of Magic career, Matilda Weasley met a fellow Curse-Breaker named Paul. Over time, the pair became closer, and Matilda agreed to quit Ministry so that they could travel the world as freelance Curse-Breakers. While the pair were happy for a while, Matilda began missing her family and the teamwork of her job at the Ministry, so she decided to part ways with Paul, returning to England.

In the early 1890s, Matilda Weasley found herself being invited to teach at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry when a position opened up in the Transfiguration department. Much like the rest of her career, Matilda was an immediate fit for Hogwarts, being well-respected by both students and the rest of the staff. In just a few years' time, Matilda was promoted to deputy headmistress of Hogwarts, working under headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black. During this time she would devise a strict timetable for a brand-new student joining Hogwarts in their fifth year, which is a highly irregular occurrence.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. PS4 and Xbox One ports are scheduled to release on April 4, and the Nintendo Switch version is arriving July 25, 2023.
