One Hogwarts Legacy player explores the open world and comes across what appears to be a nod to From Software and its popular Dark Souls games. Easter eggs are a popular way for developers to hide content within a game for players to find, especially in sprawling landscapes found within open world games. The latest title to fit this genre is Hogwarts Legacy, a game that brings the Wizarding World universe established inside the Harry Potter books to life.

Hogwarts Legacy, while taking place much earlier in that timeline, lets players explore iconic locations like the castle grounds of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Hogsmeade Village, the Dark Forest, and more. With such a large world to populate, the developers at Avalanche Software took the opportunity to hide plenty of secrets for players to find including many from the books and moves like the book where Tom Riddle first learned about Horcruxes. However, these secrets aren't limited to just the franchise as one player found a pretty clear nod to the Dark Souls franchise.

Over on the Hogwarts Legacy sunReddit, a user named inevidabletardamf22 posted a thread showcasing what appears to be a couple of nods to From Software. After stumbling into an area with gravestones littered all about, in an area where the Merlin Trial takes place near the Inferi Lair, the player noticed massive tombstones jutting out of the vertical wall and made the connection to similar looking ones in Elden Ring in the area known as Limgrave.

In a more obvious nod to From Software and Dark Souls specifically, the player also came across what appeared to be an unlit bonfire with a sword sticking out of it. Naturally, people in the comments made the connection to the bonfires inside of Dark Souls where players could rest and level up. There were plenty of fans of these references in the comments and some, such as churrmander, mentioned that seeing those horizontal gravestones sticking out of the wall gave them Elden Ring PTSD of when they would attempt to navigate down them using the horse called Torrent.

Players continue to check every nook and cranny inside of Hogwarts Legacy, attempting to discover what else that the Avalanche Software developers have attempted to hide. Inside Hogwarts, players have been discovering a number of references to the Chamber of Secrets, even providing players with a bit of lore. In fact, one player even seemingly saw the dangerous Basilisk that resides within it, slithering through a hallway beyond the Slytherin common room. Attempting to get a better look, the player is sent sliding backwards as the stairs disappear, preventing them from going any further.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. PS4 and Xbox One ports are scheduled to release on April 4, and the Nintendo Switch version arrives July 25, 2023.
