By completing the main story as well as side quests, players will not only unlock more gear and magic, but they will also find out more about their favorite characters. Interestingly, some questions might have to be answered in successive playthroughs as some dialogue options unravel in different directions.

7 Professor Percival Rackham

Hogwarts Legacy Professor Percival Rackham

After starting out in the 5th year at Hogwarts, players soon realize they were not the first. Percival Rackham, who would go on to become a professor at Hogwarts and a Keeper of ancient magic, also received a late letter of attendance around four centuries earlier.

Naturally, the player is inclined to be intrigued about Percival Rackham's story as it echoes their own, and by progressing through the main story they will learn more about themselves through the portrait and memory of Professor Rackham.

6 Professor Matilda Weasley

Hogwarts Legacy Professor Weasley Room of Requirement

Matilda Weasley, Deputy Headmistress and professor of Transfiguration at Hogwarts, appears at first to be no more than an extremely capable witch, with a kind heart and lenience towards discipline. However, as players progress through the story they will come across small clues that suggest she had an adventurous past.

When Professor Weasley accompanies the player into the Room of Requirement, it is revealed that she once found the secret room and seemingly explored much of the castle, alongside her house-elf friend Deek. A letter found in Madam Kogawa's office also reveals that the two of them had an eventful time at the Tokyo harbor.

5 Natsai Onai

Hogwarts Legacy Natsai Onai

As someone who transferred to Hogwarts from the largest wizarding school in the world, Uagadou, shortly before her fourth year, Natsai Onai has a unique and interesting backstory that players can delve into.

By attending the Charms lesson on their first day, players not sorted into Gryffindor will be acquainted with Natsai and here she will reveal some of her past. To find out more about Natsai, how and why her mother got a job at Hogwarts, and what happened to her father, players can befriend Natsai and engage in her quests.

4 Professor Dinah Hecat

Hogwarts Legacy Professor Hecat

Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor, Dinah Hecat, is a proud Ravenclaw and has the player curious to find out more about her past from the off. In her first appearance, she saves her Hebridean Black dragon skull from falling, a token from The Great Poacher Raid of 1878, which raises the question of how big of a role she played in the raid.

In the player's next interaction with Professor Hecat, she notes that appearances can be deceiving, as despite her grey hair and aged look, she was actually a contemporary of Phineas Nigellus Black at Hogwarts. She goes on to say how she was wounded by time itself, as well as telling the player how she was an Unspeakable at the Ministry of Magic, all of which sets the mind spinning.

3 Ominis Gaunt

Hogwarts Legacy Ominis Gaunt

As a member of the Gaunt family, proud descendants of Salazar Slytherin, and ancestors of Lord Voldemort, Ominis Gaunt already invites a healthy amount of intrigue. However, players who are fellow members of Slytherin will quickly realize two things. First of all, he does not share his family's prejudice, and second of all, he is blind.

Those not in Slytherin will hear about Ominis from Sebastian Sallow in the very undercroft that Ominis knew about thanks to his family. Here Sebastian reveals that Ominis trusts almost no one, which makes the player want to find out why.

2 Professor Aesop Sharp

Hogwarts Legacy Professor Aesop Sharp

As a former Auror with a limp, it is hard not to be intrigued by Potions Master Aesop Sharp. In the first Potions lesson, Professor Sharp has his students brew the Wiggenweld Potion which heals but happens to mention that not all injuries can be healed before limping away.

When players head into Sharp's office to collect extra ingredients, they will have the option to pick up a letter from his desk which turns out to be a memento from his time as an Auror. The letter informed Sharp that he was being assigned to watch over Borgin and Burkes, and leaves the player wondering why he held onto this particular order.

1 Sebastian Sallow

Hogwarts Legacy Sebastian Sallow

Sebastian Sallow, a fellow 5th-year Slytherin, is easily one of the most intriguing characters in Hogwarts Legacy, and his backstory is beautifully teased out as the game progresses. If players choose Sebastian to accompany them on their first trip to Hogsmeade, they will find out that he can also see Thestrals, which means he has seen death.

Sebastian later reveals that his sister is unwell and currently unable to attend Hogwarts, and it soon transpires that most of his mischief is carried out in the hope of saving her. An interesting line is also dropped by the school librarian after Sebastian gets in trouble in which she says his Uncle won't be happy. Who his Uncle is, goes unsaid, but leaves the player wondering and impatient to find out more.

Hogwarts Legacy launches February 10 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, April 4 for PS4 and Xbox One, and July 25 for Nintendo Switch.
