Hogwarts Legacy seemingly lets Slytherin students get a glimpse of the basilisk from the Chamber of Secrets book and movie. Hogwarts Legacy takes place in the late 1800s, about 100 years before the events of the Harry Potter series. However, that doesn't mean that the game is without direct references and nods to the books and movies.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets especially gets attention in Hogwarts Legacy. Not only can players visit the bathroom that leads to the Chamber of Secrets entrance, but there are also quests about Salazar Slytherin that provide some insight into his plans for the chamber. As anyone familiar with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets will know, a key component of Slytherin's plan was to hide a massive basilisk in the chamber, and it seems that same basilisk can be seen in the Hogwarts Legacy video game.

In a clip uploaded by Twitter user CastielJA, viewers can see the basilisk sliding by the Slytherin common room. The player attempts to run up the stairs and go to the basilisk, but the stairs quickly turn into a ramp and keeps them from getting a closer look. It's unclear exactly how Hogwarts Legacy Slytherin players can trigger this scene with the basilisk, but more information will likely come to light as more players experience it for themselves.

The basilisk is an incredibly dangerous creature in Harry Potter lore. It has deadly, venomous fangs, not to mention the ability to instantly kill anyone unlucky enough to look it directly in the eyes. Those that see the basilisk's eyes through a reflection get petrified instead, which is a condition that can be cured using the magical mandrake plant. As it so happens, mandrakes are readily available in Hogwarts Legacy (mainly used for combat purposes), and so at least the school would be ready to heal any petrified students.

Typically, one would need to be a Slytherin student to gain access to the house's common room, but there are ways players can still get there without starting a new character. Hogwarts Legacy players can glitch their way into any of the four common rooms, so even Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff students can try getting a look at the basilisk for themselves.

Hogwarts Legacy is out now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X with PS4 and Xbox One versions releasing April 4 and a Nintendo Switch port dropping July 25.
