There are no repercussions for being bad in Hogwarts Legacy, and that’s a great advantage to the fun that the player can have. Hogwarts Legacy features many Unforgivable Curses, and forbidden magic that would surely get them expelled from Hogwarts, and in trouble with the Ministry of Magic. Luckily for the player, it seems their dark deeds can go unnoticed.

If players want to become a dark wizard or dark witch in Hogwarts Legacy, then they should make note of these powerful spells, which would spell trouble for Ranrok’s loyalists, Ashwinders, and any hostile enemies that cross wands with the player-created fifth-year student.

8 Avada Kedavra

Perhaps the darkest and most Unforgivable Curse in all of the wizarding world is Avada Kedavra. This is the killing curse, a spell that will immediately kill anyone hit by it. Hogwarts Legacy does not nerf this spell, and players can use it to its full effect, instantly killing any enemy, whether it is a boss or a mere beast.

Avada Kedavra is the definitive spell to use if players are going for a dark wizard build, as it shows that they have a strong commitment to the dark arts, and wish to embark on this journey where death follows. Not even the best robe and cloak gear in Hogwarts Legacy can defend against this spell.

7 Imperio

One of the darkest spells that a witch or wizard can use is Imperio. This Unforgivable Curse will force enemies to turn on their companions and friends and have their willpower altered in the favor of the player. Imperio forces enemies to fight each other as if they are an ally to the fifth-year student cursing them with Imperio.

While under the control of the player, those affected by Imperio will take reduced damage, with a strong allegiance to the player. This helpless victim is a pawn to the player, showing just how powerful a dark wizard build can be, especially when wearing fitting gloves like the Dark Arts set.

6 Crucio

Crucio is the torture spell, a curse that will have the victim of its effect writhe in pain, taking damage over time as they are trapped in a cycle of excruciating pain caused by the dark witch or dark wizard that has cast Crucio. Not only will Crucio cause damage over time to the victim or enemy, but it will curse them.

Since Crucio curses the enemy hit by the spell, they will take extra damage. Cursing an enemy is not for the goody-two-shoes of Hogwarts students that want to learn academic spells, as Crucio is certainly one of the most forbidden spells.

5 Confringo

Yet another curse that is somewhat frowned upon is Confringo. This spell is not only useful for figuring out the many secret puzzles around Hogwarts to obtain Field Guide Pages, but it’s great for dark wizards that want to inflict pain on their enemies.

Confringo is a damage-based spell that shoots a long-range bolt toward the enemy, which will explode with a fire effect on impact. The incendiary burst will continue to cause the victim pain, leaving them open to a flurry of the player’s deadly spells.

4 Bombarda

Those that master the dark arts should have no interest in pacifying spells, which is why Bombarda is a great damage spell to use. With Bombarda, players will fire an explosion at an enemy, which deals a heavy amount of damage to those in its path.

Bombarda is a powerful spell, indicated by how it can destroy rubble with ease. Hitting a person with such a spell could cause a lot of damage, which is precisely what a dark wizard would want in Hogwarts Legacy.

3 Expelliarmus

Although Expelliarmus is a spell taught to students of Hogwarts to defend against the Dark Arts, it is best learned by those that seek to wield the Dark Arts, to understand their enemy. Expelliarmus will see those hit by the spell disarmed, with their weapon removed from their hand, whether it be a wand or an axe.

Expelliarmus also deals a moderate amount of damage, even if the enemy wields no weapon. However, in the case of the player, disarming an enemy is perhaps the evilest way to cause damage to them, as without a wand, they are helpless against the other mighty and powerful spells of the wielder.

2 Diffindo

diffindo in hogwarts legacy

With Diffindo, players will be striking enemies with bladed attacks caused by magic. Diffindo will slash at enemies from afar, dealing a decent amount of damage, no matter the distance. The idea of a dark wizard using a vindictive blade of magic to slash at their enemies is the darkness and cruelty that is required by those that want to master the dark arts. The power of this attack can negate those wearing the best headwear gear in Hogwarts Legacy.

The damage spells are a great addition to Hogwarts Legacy and will be perfect for the arsenal of magic that the player will wield. Although players only have four spell slots, switching spells is easy, almost as easy as succumbing to dark magic.

1 Glacius

Players won’t need defensive spells when they embark on a journey to master the dark arts. Glacius is a great addition to the player’s arsenal, as it will freeze enemies, leaving them defenseless from the onslaught of aggressive and dangerous spells that the player can attack with.

It’s rather sinister in itself, to surround an enemy with ice, to freeze them in a cold embrace while attacking them with unrelenting magic, pushing them to the brink of death for the most sinister witches and wizards in Hogwarts Legacy.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. PS4 and Xbox One ports are scheduled to release on April 4. The Nintendo Switch version is arriving on July 25, 2023.
