There are a lot of characters in Hogwarts Legacy. None of them reach the heights of the Harry Potter books and movies, but replacing anyone from the original series is a tall order. Maybe, with time and sequel, these characters can become just as iconic though.

Hogwarts Legacy is a lengthy game too filled with tons of quests. It's obvious then that every once in a while these characters will share something insightful, or hilarious. These are some of the best lines in the game ranging from things that will make you smile to things that will make you think.

There are spoilers in this breakdown, so be prepared.

8 “Perhaps You’d Be Good Enough To Blast Each Other To Pieces On Your Own Time.”

Professor Hecat in Hogwarts Legacy

This line was uttered by Professor Hecat in her introduction to the game. Some students are goofing around in her classroom, waiting for Defense Against the Dark Arts to begin when the skeleton of a dragon almost crushes Leander, a fellow classmate.

Professor Hecat appears just in time to save him although she serves him up on a platter while doing so. Her character s great because she is such an unassuming old witch. Beneath those old clothes and hunched-over body is a powerful witch that is not afraid to get dirty.

7 “Those Are Expensive And Spells, Spells Are Free.”

Sebastian in Hogwarts Legacy

This line was said by Sebastian right before they sneak into the library. He says this line about indivisible cloaks being better but they are not as good as having free spells at the ready. He teaches players the Disillusionment Charm at this point, which turns them translucent. They’re technically not invisible because enemies can detect them.

Still, it gets the job done for the few stealth sections of the game. This quote also paints a picture of how easy witches and wizards have it since spells are free and easy to use as long as the proper studying has been done.

6 “The Soil Should Envelop The Root Like A Warm Dirty Blanket.”

Professor Garlick in Hogwarts Legacy

Professor Garlick is the head of the Herbology department in Hogwarts Legacy. She says this line while teaching the class about Mandrakes mirroring a scene from the Harry Potter movies. The way she describes soil as a dirty blanket is so matter-of-fact that it’s hard not to laugh.

This line is true to life as well because soil can be warm and comforting even to a human. Sand is like the itchy blanket cousin to soil, but it’s still fun to get buried in sand at the beach.

5 “Nothing Wrong With A Bit Of Backup Even If It Is From A Cabbage.”

Leander in Hogwarts Legacy

There’s another great line following Professor Garlick’s in this same chain of events. Leander will come up to the player after class and start championing the merits of using plants in battle. That’s when the player-created character will say this line.

The idea that there are no permanent party members in this open-world RPG is disheartening. It gets weird considering the only company players constantly have in battle is their collection of battle plants including the Chinese Chomping Cabbage, which just looks like a cabbage with teeth.

4 “Her Fate Was Not Mine To Decide.”

Professor Kogawa in Hogwarts Legacy

One of the downsides to the game is not being able to spend a lot of time with the other students or professors. Every once in a while professors will let their hair down to share some backstory. For example, Professor Kogawa, the broom flying coach and head of the Quidditch department, reveals that she was in the running for the Toyohashi Tengu in Japan.

Her friend, Asuka, secretly roped Kogawa into cheating. Kogawa did the right thing and turned herself in thus ruining her chances of getting into the big leagues. Asuka continued to play which confuses the player's character. When asked why she didn’t rat out her friend, Kogawa explains this line about fate which is poignant.

3 “It Wasn’t You Who Told Me What I Needed To Hear.”

Ominis in Hogwarts Legacy

There are few characters that get big arcs in the game but Sebastian is one of them. He is trying to find a cure for his sister Anne, which leads him down a dark path. His friend and fellow Slytherin alum, Ominis, constantly tries to explain that nothing but heartache awaits wizards that dabble in the dark arts.

Eventually, players join them on a quest to find the Scriptorium of Salazar Slytherin. Players need to first convince Ominis to help and when he agrees, Sebastian is a little hurt by the quick turnaround. Ominis rightfully points out that Sebastian basically wasn’t asking the right questions in Hogwarts Legacy.

2 “Pronunciation Is Not The Issue, I Barely Recognize That As Language.”

Lodgok in Hogwarts Legacy

Amit is another student at Hogwarts who is in the Ravenclaw House. If players get sorted into that House, they will hear early on how Amit knows Gobbledegook which is the goblin language. Eventually, this bragging comes into the main story when players must ask him to accompany them on a quest.

They meet Lodgok, an allied goblin who has been helping the player for a bit, on the far reaches of the map. When he hears Amit try to speak Gobbledegook, Lodgok is horrified by the whole which is hilarious.

1 “I Did Not Teach You This.”

Isidora in Hogwarts Legacy

In the final Pensieve of Hogwarts Legacy, players get to see the Keepers confront Isidora and her giant ball of powerful magic. She tells Professor Rackham that she was taught to hone her magic and not throw it away. Rackham sadly looks back at her after this and says this line about not reaching that specifically before he and his fellow Keepers start fighting Isidora off.

Isidora may be a villain, but it’s understandable to see where she was coming from, unlike a villain along the lines of Voldemort. She wanted to cure people of disease and sadness which is not a bad thing. Amassing power in the process was the scary thing though that set the world off-balance.

Hogwarts Legacy was released on February 10, 2023, and is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
