Highlights

  • Hogwarts Legacy offers players a unique experience to explore the Wizarding World like never before, attending classes and saving magical creatures.
  • The sequel could enhance the game by adding more beast species, making shiny beasts more rewarding, and improving Vivarium building mechanics.
  • A potential improvement idea for Hogwarts Legacy 2 is to allow players to share their personalized Vivariums with others online for visitation.

One of Hogwarts Legacy's best features is that it allows players to explore the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in a way they were never able to in any game before it. As a fifth-year student at Hogwarts, players can attend classes, form relationships with other witches and wizards, and explore the castle of Hogwarts to their heart's content, uncovering its many mysteries along the way. Outside the famous castle, players can embark on an adventure through the game's vast open world, full of various collectibles and side activities for them to complete as well. Among those activities is one of Hogwarts Legacy's most charming: rescuing the world's fantastic beasts and then building Vivariums for them to live in.

Hogwarts Legacy's fantastic beasts and Vivariums are undoubtedly one of its most satisfying side activities, as players can find and rescue thirteen different species of creatures and place them into four distinct Vivariums. Inside those Vivariums, players can build various structures from the huge library of Conjurations and custom building mechanics they have at their disposal. Now, assuming it is in development, Hogwarts Legacy's sequel has a chance to improve on the first game's beasts and Vivariums, and it arguably should, as the feature is worthy of more attention.

How Hogwarts Legacy 2 Could Improve Its Beasts and Vivariums

Hogwarts Legacy 2 Should Feature Even More Beast Species

The Harry Potter universe is home to over one hundred beasts, so it's a shame that Hogwarts Legacy only has thirteen different species of beast. Adding more species in Hogwarts Legacy 2 would give players even more reason to explore the open world. Rather than each species having multiple capture sites, perhaps Hogwarts Legacy 2 could instead have only a few different regions where players could find specific creatures.

Hogwarts Legacy 2's Shiny Beasts Should Be More Rewarding

One rather unwritten mechanic in Hogwarts Legacy's beast-rescuing is the appearance of "shiny" beasts. Similar to the Pokemon series' shiny Pokemon, Hogwarts Legacy's shiny beasts are rare variations of each species that players can occasionally find hidden among their usual groups. Unfortunately, the only real benefit to finding a shiny beast is that it has a different color than a normal beast. Hogwarts Legacy 2 could up the ante here by making rescuing shiny beasts a more worthwhile endeavor. Perhaps shiny beasts could produce more valuable resources. At the very least, there could be a Trophy/Achievement tied to capturing a shiny beast from every species.

Hogwarts Legacy 2's Vivariums Should Feature Improved Building Mechanics

Hogwarts Legacy allows players to personalize their Vivariums by building custom structures, and while it has proven to be a noteworthy attempt at including base-building features in the game, it has also shown itself to be rather lackluster in its execution. When building certain structures, there are spaces between them, rather than having them snap together to create seamless transitions. Additionally, it's not possible to build or place objects, like benches, on top of flooring. Hogwarts Legacy 2 should improve the building mechanics of the first game by making them a little more comparable to base-building games like Palworld and Enshrouded.

Hogwarts Legacy 2's Vivariums Should Be Accessible to Other Players

One final feature Hogwarts Legacy 2 could capitalize on would be to allow players to open up their Vivariums to visitation from online players. Rather than requiring them to post videos and/or pictures of their Vivariums to social media, perhaps they could provide a code instead that would allow other players to see them in person, similar to Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Dream Islands.

There are plenty of ways Hogwarts Legacy could improve its beasts and Vivariums, but the most obvious are increasing the number of species available and updating Vivarium building mechanics. This is all, of course, assuming that there will be a Hogwarts Legacy sequel, but that is arguably all but officially confirmed.
