It could also feature different perspectives, like playing as an adult teacher and instructing students or controlling an auror to investigate a criminal plot.

Many Hogwarts Legacy fans eagerly await what's next for the magical open-world RPG game, with many hoping for more content or a sequel. Although DLC is unlikely at this point, a Hogwarts Legacy sequel is a strong possibility. However, what form it might take is unclear, which means fans may not see a return to the Hogwarts school experience in a potential Hogwarts Legacy 2.

There are recent murmurings of a high-profile AAA title from the Hogwarts Legacy team being in the works, which may be another Harry Potter game. Given Hogwarts Legacy's vast success and popularity, it would be surprising if Avalanche Software doesn't work on more related titles. However, with Hogwarts Legacy already focusing on much of the Hogwarts school experience, it begs the question of what other Harry Potter fantasies the studio could explore next in a sequel.

Why Hogwarts Legacy's Magical School Experience Might Change In A Sequel

Avalanche Software's recreation of Hogwarts Castle received praise for its exceptional level of environmental detail, including Hogwarts Legacy's unnoticed Hogwarts Castle details. Players could also participate in most classes, such as Herbology, Potions, and Defense Against the Dark Arts, where they learned the game's spell and potion mechanics. Although some players might prefer more classwork to do, the game covered the core school experience for the most part, fulfilling most players' Harry Potter dreams of playing a student at Hogwarts.

There is a possibility that players could return for their sixth or seventh year as a Hogwarts Legacy student, but this would need to give players more areas to explore and things to do within or beyond the walls of Hogwarts to avoid repetitive gameplay, so a true sequel feels less likely. A sequel could explore more of Hogwarts Legacy's secret locations, possibly accessible via its many ghosts. Including iconic, unexplored areas like The Chamber of Secrets could tick off a lot of items on player wish lists, and Multiplayer for questing and other activities could also shake up the experience dramatically, especially if Quidditch appears. That said, a return to Hogwarts might present better opportunities for players if done differently and more sparingly, through the eyes of a non-student role or set in a different era altogether.

How Hogwarts Legacy Could Explore Other Legacies In A Sequel

Hogwarts Castle is a pinnacle attraction of the franchise, so it makes sense it appears in a Hogwarts Legacy sequel somewhere. Yet, that doesn't have to be through the eyes of the student. If players become an adult witch or wizard in their chosen career path, like an Auror, they could briefly return to Hogwarts to investigate a criminal plot. The game could tie this to all Hogwarts Legacy endings, as players deal with the legacy of Ancient Magic and Repository left behind. Playing in a more mature, globe-hopping role could also enable players to travel to more iconic locations from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts movies, such as the Ministry of Magic and Diagon Alley in London, to the MACUSA building in New York City.

A sequel could also look to the legacies of its past when considering its Merlin Trials, one Hogwarts Legacy activity with prequel potential. Playing as or befriending historical characters like Merlin could give players a fascinating insight into mythology and Harry Potter lore. Alternatively, letting players shape the curriculum as a Founder could be a different way of fulfilling the Hogwarts school dreams while still living up to the game's name and highlighting important legacies. Overall, there are many exciting ways a Hogwarts Legacy sequel might go beyond just a revamped school experience, so hopefully it tries to shake things up.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with a Switch version releasing November 14.
