High on Life is the latest game from Squanch Games, and while it's a great new FPS for fans of the genre to check out, it does suffer from a serious game-breaking bug that players should do their best to avoid. High on Life is out now for Xbox Game Pass, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, and so many fans of Squanch Games founder Justin Roiland's work are likely wasting no time giving it a go.

As players go through High on Life, they will experience a first-person sci-fi adventure game with talking guns, a bloodthirsty knife, and a slew of other gadgets that are acquired over the course of the journey. High on Life reviews have been somewhat mixed, but it's safe to say those that enjoy Rick and Morty will get a kick out of it. One of the common complaints reviewers have had about the game is that it suffers from some technical issues, and while most are harmless graphical oddities, at least one is pretty serious and should be avoided. This article will be kept as vague as possible, but those that want to experience the game completely blind should note that there will be some minor spoilers from here on out.

A few hours into High on Life, players will acquire a jetpack that greatly increases their traversal options. When they first visit the local pawn shop to buy the jetpack, it's out of stock, and so they put their money down and wait for it to be delivered later. Following some story developments, High on Life players are instructed to sleep in their bed. They are then woken up in the middle of the night and find themselves on the roof of their house, where they're taught how to use the jetpack.

If High on Life players decide to mess around with the jetpack instead of going to their designated landing spots and happen to fall to the ground, the game may respawn them in their bedroom. If players try to push the button prompt to go back to sleep, it will simply disappear, and they will still be stuck in the room. Attempting to walk down the stairs will trick the game into thinking players are falling off a cliff, with the associated sound effects and everything. Doing this only makes players respawn in their room yet again though, with seemingly no way to get back to the roof. We encountered this game-breaking bug while reviewing High on Life, but it eventually fixed itself somehow. We randomly loaded the same bugged save file many hours later, and it finally allowed us to spawn back on the roof where we needed to be instead of in the glitched bedroom.

High on Life lacks manual save options, and so the only way to avoid the glitch is to make sure players don't fall off the roofs when testing out the jetpack. This is a serious bug that will hopefully be addressed in a future update. But those that are able to avoid it should be able to safely enjoy High on Life's surreal brand of comedy and first-person shooter gameplay.

High on Life is available now for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
