High on Life is an upcoming sci-fi first-person shooter title from Squanch Games, a development studio founded by Rick and Morty's Justin Roiland. The game was first unveiled at this year's Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase held at the Summer Game Fest in June. Since then, more and more details on High on Life have been unveiled, as the game approaches its release date set for later this year. At Gamescom 2022, for example, High on Life has shown off more gameplay, and the development team has also discussed future plans.

High on Life is a bizarre FPS slated for release this December, and Executive Producer Matty Studivan recently revealed that the team had even been working on some DLC ideas for the game. According to Studivan, the studio has already brainstormed ideas for High on Life's post-launch content, which will include bug fixes as well as some additional content that didn't quite make the game's original cut. This support post-launch will also include some DLC for High on Life, but Studivan didn't go into too much detail on what that could look like.

He did discuss the studio's previous title, Trover Saves the Universe, which was a sci-fi, VR game, featuring that famous style of comedy one could expect from one of the creators of Rick and Morty. "With Trover," Studivan said, "we supported it for a really long time... And so I think we want to do the same with High on Life." Even months before High on Life's recently delayed release date, the team is already discussing DLC plans, which for some, may seem a bit early.

However, it makes sense that the team at Squanch Games wants to give High on Life additional content as soon as possible, especially considering the other major detail revealed about the title at Gamescom. According to Studivan as well, High on Life will only take around 12-20 hours to beat. For those who enjoy exploring the wacky galaxy of High on Life, it may prove to be a short experience. With players being able to finish the game quickly, additional content being brought swiftly to High on Life following its release could extend the game's shelf life.

While High on Life may not offer hundreds of hours of play from launch, it seems that the game's 12-20 hours of play will be entertaining thanks to its setting, comedy, and game design. High on Life's talking weapons are a unique addition to the game that will comment on the player's actions, acting as both a means of destruction and a comedic sidekick. Also, with Studivan's confirmation that DLC ideas are being brainstormed, it seems more content will soon be following High on Life's launch, extending the original short play time.

High on Life will release on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on December 13. The game is confirmed for day one release on Xbox Game Pass.
