Hideo Kojima is one of the most celebrated game developers in the history of the industry, creating the Metal Gear Solid franchise with Konami and more recently striking out on his own as part of Kojima Productions. So far, Kojima has released one game since parting ways with Konami, the divisive Death Stranding, but now it seems that his next title could be getting a proper reveal in the relatively near future.

Kojima recently sent out a tweet that suggests he has finished editing a trailer for his new game. This has led to speculation that Kojima's next game will be getting a proper reveal soon, perhaps as early as Gamescom later this month. Gamescom Opening Night Live is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, August 23 at 11am PT, hosted by Geoff Keighley. Kojima tends to showcase his games at Keighley's events, so it would make sense for his next project to get the spotlight at the event.

As for what Kojima's next game will be, that remains to be seen. We do know that Kojima is collaborating with Xbox on a new game that will leverage cloud technology, but more details on it have yet to be revealed at the time of this writing. Rumor has it that it's a horror game with the codename Overdose, but nothing official to that effect has been announced at the time of this writing.

Besides Overdose, Kojima Productions is rumored to be working on a Death Stranding sequel. These rumors started when Death Stranding star Norman Reedus seemingly leaked the game's existence, though it's unclear which game Kojima Productions will launch first or which one will potentially be getting a Gamescom reveal. Fans also need to keep in mind the possibility that Kojima won't be at Gamescom at all, and so it's best to keep one's expectations in check.

Another possibility is that Kojima's next game isn't the rumored Overdose horror game or Death Stranding 2, but rather something completely unexpected. While that seems unlikely, it's still a possibility, and so it will definitely be interesting to see the game in action.

If Kojima's next game isn't at Gamescom, then perhaps it will be shown at Tokyo Game Show in September, or maybe even The Game Awards in December. It's been three years since Death Stranding launched, though, so one has to imagine that Kojima's next project should be ready for a reveal sooner rather than later.
