Microsoft recently announced that Xbox would soon be bringing four games to other platforms. Leadership at Xbox declined to confirm the specific titles and release dates at the time, but it appears fans didn't have to wait long before an official announcement was made. Despite rumors claiming Xbox would move major AAA titles like Starfield to other platforms, leadership asserted that the four former exclusives would consist of two smaller-scale games and two community-focused experiences.

What Xbox's New Exclusivity Strategy Will Mean For Xbox Game Pass

Xbox has just announced that it plans on bringing four games to other platforms, and fans might be wondering what that means for Xbox Game Pass.

Xbox announced that Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves will soon release on PS5. After releasing just last year, Hi-Fi Rush is headed to PS5 on March 19. The stylish rhythm action title garnered excellent reviews and easily ranks among the highest-rated games of 2023. Sea of Thieves, on the other hand, is an open-world multiplayer pirate game from Rare that has been around since 2018. Sea of Thieves will be coming to PS5 on April 30, and is slated to support cross-play with Xbox consoles and PC.

Xbox Games Coming To PS5

  • Pentiment (February 22)
  • Hi-Fi Rush (March 19)
  • Grounded (April 16)
  • Sea of Thieves (April 30)

Former Xbox console exclusives Pentiment and Grounded will also be making the jump to PS5 in the coming months. While Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves are coming to PS5 only at this time, Grounded and Pentiment will also be launching on PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Like Sea of Thieves, Grounded will support cross-play with other platforms.

When Xbox announced that four former exclusives would be making their way to other platforms, leadership emphasized that this move did not signal a change of strategy for the brand. In the case of Hi-Fi Rush, expanding to other consoles means that one of 2023's best platformers can find new audiences and potentially fund future sequels or spin-offs. As a community-based game, Sea of Thieves looks to add to its player count after being an Xbox console exclusive for nearly six years.

Alongside the announcement of four games moving to other platforms, Xbox confirmed Diablo 4's Game Pass release date. While leadership didn't confirm dates for other titles, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer and Xbox President Sarah Bond stated that this would mark the beginning of Activision Blizzard titles joining Game Pass following last year's massive acquisition.
