Amazon Studios has greenlit a Warhammer Cinematic Universe, and actor Henry Cavill has just confirmed that he will be amongst those who will bring it to life. As executive producer and star, Cavill will lead the science-fiction franchise with various adaptations, including film, television series, and “more.”

Based on the popular tabletop game Warhammer 40,000, the live-action franchise has been in talks for several years and is finally coming to fruition. News of a Warhammer 40,000 series broke recently, and while fans were celebrating, they didn’t realize there was more in store. Cavill shared news of the universe on social media the next morning, which sent his fans into a total frenzy.

Taking to Instagram, Cavill shared a short clip of a stylized version of the Warhammer 40,000 logo. The clip begins with a black screen, lightning strikes, and the logo slowly appears. The caption reads: “For 30 years I have dreamt of seeing a Warhammer universe in live action. Now, after 22 years of experience in this industry, I finally feel that I have the skill set and experience to guide a Warhammer Cinematic Universe into life.” Cavill's appreciation for the Warhammer games and his desire to bring a Warhammer 40,000 adaptation to life is not a secret, as he has spoken about it in several interviews in the past. It has just been delayed due to other projects, but he has finally found the time in his busy schedule.

Another aspect of the Warhammer 40,000 franchise was its ability to find a home. Cavill reveals that he partnered with “Natalie Viscuso at Vertigo,” who also happens to be his current girlfriend, who helped them find “the perfect home” for the franchise at Amazon. With the studio confirming a Warhammer Cinematic Universe, Cavill and his team have a lot of room to “be true to the massive scope of Warhammer.” Currently, they are working to find their “Filmmaker/Creator/Writer,” with Cavill confirmed as the star of the first series.

The news comes on the heels of the massive announcement that Cavill will not return as Superman in the DC Universe. Despite the earlier confirmation in October and an appearance in the Black Adam mid-credits scene, Cavill's role as Superman is over. It was previously announced that he quit Netflix's The Witcher, and many are now assuming that he is able to work on the Warhammer franchise because his calendar is looking quite open for the time being.
