Rumours of Henry Cavill's return as Superman had been swirling ever since Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam flick was announced, and fans were convinced that Cavill would be present at the San Diego Comic-Con in July to confirm his return. The actor has finally opened up about those rumours and revealed how difficult it was to keep the massive secret.

After the release of Black Adam, Cavill confirmed his return as Superman in the DC Universe. However, since fans expected the reveal to come during Comic-Con, there was a lot of disappointment following the event. Cavill, however, found it hilarious because he knew that the big reveal was coming soon, and he looked forward to fans’ reactions after they got to see the Black Adam mid-credits scene.

While speaking to BBC Radio 1 for an interview about his new film Enola Holmes 2, Cavill was asked about the rumour that he would be present at the San Diego Comic-Con to confirm the return of Superman. “Yeah, there was a lot,” he said and revealed that many people were asking him if he would be at Comic-Con. When he denied his presence at the event, they would assume he was lying, similar to Andrew Garfield lying about his involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home. He decided he would just “ride this one out and see what happens.” After the event, when the same people were disappointed, Cavill thought to himself that all these fans should have “patience… it will come.”

While the big reveal did not come during Comic-Con, Johnson kept teasing the return of Superman during the promotion of Black Adam. The tipping point, however, was when the Black Adam mid-credits scene leaked online, which featured Cavill's Superman coming face-to-face with Johnson's latest antihero. With no hesitation, Johnson confirmed after the scene leaked that Cavill was in fact back, and referred to him as the “Superman of our generation.”

What comes next is really exciting, not just for fans but also for Cavill. The best part, in his opinion, is that “there are no spoilers yet.” Currently, the Man of Steel 2 film is still being discussed at Warner Bros. Discovery, and the plot has not been finalized. “It’s all in the construction process,” revealed Cavill, who is looking forward to working with the whole team once again. For now, he is just looking forward to bringing “optimism, hope and joy” to the character, something that all fans of the Superman franchise already seem to have.
