Shugen is a highly skilled warrior who enjoyed his duties as an executioner and took great pride in being an Asaemon. He had always hated criminals and believed that they were all evil, even from a young age, because his parents died at the hands of a murderer; he later avenged his parents by killing him. He believed that the Yamada way of executing criminals is too soft and should be more brutal because they deserve a painful death.

Shugen led a second team sent to acquire the elixir because he didn’t trust the criminals sent to retrieve it upon reaching the island and discovering that some of his Asaemon allies were dead. He issued a kill-on-sight order for all the criminals.

6 Yamada Asaemon Jikka

Jikka is later revealed to be a very self-centered and cold-hearted individual. He is the only member of the Yamada clan who shows little to no concern about the welfare of his fellow clan members.
