Helldivers 2 Reveals Viper Commandos Warbond and Release Date

Arrowhead Game Studios reveals Helldivers 2's Viper Commandos Warbond, bringing exciting new content and addressing players’ feedback.

Now, Helldivers 2 is gearing up for a big patch on June 13, which appears to include visible supply lines and attack origins, patrols and spawn rates reverted, invite-only lobbies, super samples at Level 6, a fix to unlimited grenades, and more than 100 other changes and fixes. The game has not revealed its full patch notes, just the snippet of what Helldivers 2 players can expect until the full patch note list comes out June 13. The game also shared a message with its fans on social media that it is aware it has slowed down the cadence of patch releases. “Similar to our future approach to Warbonds, this is so we can dedicate more time to each patch to reduce the pressure on our teams, dig into your feedback more and deliver higher quality patches,” Helldivers 2 said in a tweet thread.

Helldivers 2 Devs Promise Slower But Bigger Updates

Helldivers 2 said that its next patch is “strong,” with a lot of bug fixes, player-requested features, and the highly anticipated Viper Commandos Warbond set. The new Warbond includes a new version of the Helldivers 2’s Liberator: the AR-23A Liberator Carbine; new armor sets; a new utility knife; new emotes, capes, victory poses, and player cards; and new skins for hellpods, Exosuits, and Pelican-1.

"We're very aware that going from quick, small patches to slower, bigger patches means your expectations are higher… We'll continue delivering patches and content that squash bugs and evolve the game. And, most importantly, evolve the game WITH our players and community,” Helldivers 2 said in a tweet thread.

Helldivers 2 has been making adjustments as its former CEO, Johan Pilestedt, transitioned to Arrowhead Game Studios' chief creative officer and named Shams Jorjani its new CEO. Pilestedt said he wanted to focus more on Arrowhead’s games and community, aligning with Helldivers 2’s new update plans.

Helldivers 2 appears more committed than ever to listening to its players, engaging with them for feedback on social media and dedicating time to adding new content, which means patches are coming out slower than expected. Players responded to the thread in a variety of ways: Some are thrilled with dedicated time to big updates, others are glad that the developers aren’t being worked to death, and others want quick fixes for little problems that still plague the game. Other players are saying that the upcoming update will determine whether they continue playing the game. Regardless, Helldivers 2 is attempting to be transparent with its community as it shares its development process and timing, and players will likely still flock to the game later this week to check out the new Warbond.
