Helldivers 2 developers confirmed the multi-planet liberation system was not yet implemented in the live servers. Since release, players have attempted to maximize their strength by diverting manpower to the objectives that provided the most gains for the Galactic War effort. In response to the Helldivers 2 fan base's tactical brainstorming, Arrowhead Game Studios revealed it intended to add a way for the community to secure multiple planets simultaneously.

Planets and invasions in Helldivers 2 work on a hidden supply line mechanic, which connects all the solar bodies in a system together in an invisible network. When invading a system, players needed to establish a foothold by conquering a gateway planet and securing a steady stream of supplies from Super Earth to the front before expanding their invasion to other worlds. This was why Major Orders to assault or defend gateway planets were so impactful to the game's meta-narrative, as the outcome of one of these Major Orders could lead to the loss or gain of an entire system.

Helldivers 2 Director Comments on Community Debate

Helldivers 2 director Johan Johan Pilestedt responds to fans debating whether developers should focus on bug fixes or new content.

Recently, developers confirmed Helldivers 2's Galactic War system has not yet implemented the multi-planet liberation mechanic and revealed supply lines only affected Super Earth forces at the time of writing, though they also implied that a future update would let the game auto-liberate planets under the right circumstances. Specifically, a member of Arrowhead Game Studios commented on the fans' proposed "Martale Gambit," a community-created plan to focus their efforts on liberating the eponymous planet of Martale in the Andromeda System. If successful, the defense of Martale should indirectly secure the connected planet of Charon Prime by cutting off the Automaton's supplies, awarding Helldivers with an automatic win by the gambit's logic.

Helldivers 2 Players Propose the Martale Gambit

There's no specific date for when the multi-liberation mechanic is expected to hit live servers, so as things stand, even if players successfully defended Martale, Charon Prime would remain under threat if left on its own. Fortunately for Super Earth, Helldivers 2 game master Joel reportedly applauded the plan, claiming he would uphold the spirit of the intended feature by manually liberating Charon Prime if Helldivers managed to secure Martale.

While sound in theory, the Martale Gambit ultimately failed after the Automatons secured the planet of Meissa and ironically cut Helldivers off from their own supply lines on April 20. Despite the setback, this incident still confirmed that Helldivers 2's developers rewarded players who discovered ways to take advantage of the game's established mechanics, and the community will likely keep the Martale Gambit in mind in their ongoing fight to spread managed democracy across the galaxy.
