In Helldivers 2, support weapons act as the player's answer to specific situations — if your gun doesn't work, use more gun. Each support weapon as a niche to fill, and the Anti-Materiel Rifle sits as the king of high-caliber sniper rifles, capable of taking out most threats on all fronts of the galactic war.

The Anti-Materiel Rifle may seem like a worse Railgun at first, but the two weapons are actually comparable to each other in most cases. Of course, there are key differences between the two weapons that set them apart, but for anyone who's looking for a long-ranged anti-armor rifle, both can do the job relatively well. Here's how to get this support weapon in Helldivers 2 as well as some tips on how best to use it.

How to Get The Anti-Materiel Rifle in Helldivers 2

Like the majority of support weapons, the Anti-Material Rifle must be purchased from the Requisitions terminal aboard any Super Destroyer. It costs 6000 Requisition to unlock, and you'll have to call it down from orbit once you've started a match.

A random anti-materiel rifle in Helldivers 2

This support weapon appears relatively frequently as random loot during missions. You have a chance of finding one when you visit POIs; ones with closed cargo containers and weapon stashes have a fairly high chance of containing an AMR or other support weapons like Flamethrowers, Arc Throwers, and either of the two machine gun variants.

How to Use The Anti-Materiel Rifle

The AMR is primarily a sniper rifle with medium armor penetration. Its main job is to destroy some of the tougher targets in Helldivers 2, such as Scout Striders and Devastators. It can be useful against the Terminids, but this weapon truly shines when fighting Automatons as its large rounds can punch through all of their units, even the tanks. However, the AMR does not have an aiming reticule when in third-person mode. Players must switch perspectives and use the gun's scope if they want to be accurate with it.

Ideally, the Anti-Materiel Rifle should be paired with a fast-firing primary weapon like the LAS-16 Sickle or the default Liberator. The P-19 Redeemer also works well in a pinch, though it's better to leave the horde clear role to a primary weapon.

Here are some things that the Anti-Materiel Rifle can do:

  • Destroy Scout Strider frontal shields
  • Kill Scout Strider pilots by shooting below their shields
  • Two-tap Hulks by shooting their eyes
  • One-tap Devastators
  • One-tap Bile/Nursing Spewers
  • Stagger Heavy Devastators by shooting their shields
  • Damage Chargers by shooting their mouths
  • Pop Bile Titan bellies
