It wasn’t long ago that Helldivers 2 released its latest Premium Warbond, “Cutting Edge,” and some players may still be working toward its completion. However, on top of huge content updates added to the game frequently, Helldivers 2 is already dropping another new Premium Warbond onto players with “Democratic Detonation.”

The standard fare of gear, weapons, and other items is unlockable in this Helldivers 2 Warbond, all adhering to a particularly explosive theme. The crossbow it introduces is surely unique, for instance, but its secondary weapon is perhaps most intriguing on paper. Secondary weapons arguably haven’t been incredibly distinct or impactful, and yet the GP-31 Grenade Pistol could supplement players in their mid-mission goals and finally make a huge splash for otherwise lackluster or forgettable sidearms.

Grenades Can Be More Case-Specific in Helldivers 2

Grenades aren’t necessarily the most paramount item in players’ Helldivers 2 loadouts. The selection of a primary weapon is easily the most crucial since it’s what players will be firing in the heat of the moment when all of their more advantageous or unique options are exhausted, for instance.

Stratagems can’t all be spammed, and eventually players will need to rely on everything else they’ve come equipped with. Grenades are legitimately decent when an armored enemy is vulnerable from behind and players can get a well-timed and well-placed toss behind them, but in reality their usage mainly boils down to caving in bug hives or thwarting bot factories.

These are cases where a grenade can be thrown into a tight window, which makes for a hectic experience if swarmed by a horde, and too many times to count players may find themselves with one final bug hole to close and no more grenades on their person.

Players have taken to simply dropping stratagem nukes like Helldivers 2’s Eagle Cluster Bomb on such hives for convenience sake, but that doesn’t ensure every hole will have been hit when the smoke has cleared. That’s why the Grenade Pistol in this Premium Warbond may make some huge waves when it comes to players who are compelled to finish every objective available in a mission.

Helldivers 2’s Grenade Pistol Seems OP for Objective Lovers

With the GP-31 Grenade Pistol, players may not need to call down a Resupply stratagem nearly as often or be Reinforced from untimely deaths to replenish sacred grenade reserves. Instead, they’ll have even more grenades available in the form of a secondary weapon that needs to be manually reloaded between individual shots.

Basically a one-handed grenade launcher, the Grenade Pistol could irreparably change the meta. No longer will players need others to help toss grenades into active bug holes or wait for their Resupply to restock grenades for themselves if they have a fully loaded Grenade Pistol, making such mission objectives a complete afterthought.

There are myriad combat strategies to consider with his unique secondary weapon, too, but its efficiency and addition to inventory grenades will play a huge role in how missions are approached. Players will now be able to more confidently experiment with more eccentric grenade types, for example, while having ordinary grenades fired as a secondary weapon.

Players who might have never bothered to try out a stun-type or incendiary-type grenade may finally do so with the knowledge that they technically have infinite grenade ammunition with the Grenade Pistol so long as they remember they can’t idly spam fire like they would with another secondary weapon. That said, the sidearm only holds eight grenades at any given time with only a couple of grenades replenished from ammunition drops, which means players could need to pick up more ammunition for it and more often, anyway.

Thankfully, weapon ammunition is usually easier to randomly find than grenade reserves. The amount of viable secondary weapons was looking dire for a moment while primary weapons quickly stole the spotlight, but the Grenade Pistol looks to be a highly useful tool in the ongoing battle for democracy and Arrowhead hopefully won’t nerf it any time soon if it ends up being fantastic. If anything, Arrowhead should buff it and make it the go-to choice for a secondary weapon.
