Following the arrival of a new major order set on Meridia, Helldivers 2 players attempting to destroy the supercolony there have instead run into a spawn issue that makes the mission much harder than Arrowhead Game Studios intended. It has been a rollercoaster of a month for Helldivers 2, after much of the goodwill was lost when a PlayStation Account Link requirement was announced. Fans pushed back on the announcement, eventually causing the feature to be scrapped entirely. While the controversy has been largely resolved, Arrowhead Game Studios has continued to progress the game's overarching narrative with a new Major Order.

The new Helldivers 2 Major Order is known as Operation Enduring Peace, tasking players with liberating the Meridian supercolony. In this case, liberating the planet means its total destruction and to aid in that cause, players gain access to a new experimental weapon made of pure Dark Fluid. Players need to take a backpack full of Dark Fluid, locate a drill site, defend it while the superweapon arms itself, and then extract. However, players attempting this mission have found that it isn't playing out quite as straightforward as they initially thought.

Arrowhead Game Studios addresses the possibility of allowing Helldivers 2 players to use more than one mech per match in the future.

Players diving into the supercolony on Meridia have found that the Terminids can spawn nearly anywhere, to the point where the mission feels broken, even on the lowest difficulty. New posts and videos have quickly begun surfacing online of the spawn issues, with many noting that breaches have been opening up right next to the drill, making the defense of it much harder than in typical defense style missions in Helldivers 2. Not only that, the flying Terminid enemies called Shriekers seemingly appear in overwhelming numbers, as indicated by Reddit user 1_ConvoBreaker, showcasing a mass number of them even on Trivial Difficulty.

Arrowhead Game Studios Responds to Helldivers 2 Spawn Issues

While some have noted that a Terminid supercolony should feel this way in Helldivers 2, the spawn rates are apparently a bug, as confirmed by community manager Baskinator on the game's Discord channel. After thanking the community for showcasing the issues, Baskinator confirmed that the studio is currently working on a hotfix and will release it as soon as possible. The team will keep players informed, so those waiting should likely keep an eye on Discord or through the official Helldivers 2 social channels.

Interestingly enough, many fans were well aware that this mission was coming. A recent Helldivers 2 leak confirmed the destruction of Meridia through the use of Dark Fluid, well before this Major Order was officially released. As players are well aware, typically these missions don't go as planned, as evidenced by the eradication of Automatons back in April, which led to the faction coming back with new enemy units. As speculation continues to grow over a third faction joining the fight, it's more likely that the destruction of Meridia will have an unforeseen impact on the game's universe.
