Highlights

  • In Helldivers 2 , players can complete missions solo or in squads, facing various enemies and completing tasks for Super Earth.
  • Some missions, like Spread Democracy, are easier on lower levels and can be done solo, requiring players to call in a flag and defend it.
  • Solo players can excel in missions targeting specific enemies like the Automaton Devastator, Hulk, or Terminid Swarm with the right tactics and weapons.

Helldivers 2 is a co-op shooter where players drop onto planets to complete missions for their home government back on Super Earth. While the game encourages players to join each other in squads of up to four Helldivers, players can also face the Automaton forces and Terminid swarms alone if they so choose.

Some missions are complex or difficult enough that players should only attempt them with a squad at their side, such as Launch ICBMs or Evacuate Civilians. In theory, any player can complete any mission solo, but some missions are much more accessible to solo players than others.

7 Spread Democracy

The Easiest Mission Only Available On Low Difficulty

helldivers 2 how to raise the flag
  • Only on Level 1–3 Missions
  • Complete by calling in a flag and standing near it for a set amount of time

Super Earth seeks to spread its influence and rally its people to the cause of Managed Democracy, and there is apparently no better way to do that than to raise its flag on alien planets. Helldivers on missions to Spread Democracy have to go to a specific location on the map and use the Strategem menu to call down a flagpole. After that, they must simply stay in the area while the flag is raised.

In addition to the fact that these missions are only available on the easiest difficulty levels, Spread Democracy missions are simple to do solo because they do not involve terminals, taking out difficult enemies, or any elements of the missions that need a squad to complete.

6 Eliminate Automaton Devastator

Low-Difficulty Mission That Targets A Specific Enemy

Helldivers 2 Devastator Types
  • Only on Level 1 and 2 Missions
  • Complete by finding and killing a Devastator

Devastators are large Automaton units with heavy armor around most of their humanoid bodies. Players need to aim for their weak spots, which include their head and gaps in the armor around the midriff and shoulders. On higher-difficulty missions, Devastators are common enemies, which makes the Eliminate Automaton Devastator mission type a good source of training for players learning the ropes of fighting Automatons.

Choosing the right Backpack Stratagem is essential to ensuring Democracy is spread across the conquerable planets of Helldivers 2.

The mini-map marks the general vicinity where the Devastator can be found. Players have to go to that area, find the Devastator, and destroy it. It is easy to kill one by using a shotgun to hit all the gaps in its armor. Players can also use grenades or call in offensive Strategems to get the job done.

5 Eliminate Automaton Hulks

Destroy A Single Difficult Target To Win

Beating Hulks in Helldivers 2
  • Level 3 Mission
  • Complete by finding and destroying a Hulk

Hulks are intimidating Automaton units with several variations. They are heavily armored, so only the strongest weapons and Strategems can deal damage to them, unless players target their weak spots. These weak spots include the array of glowing orange spots on the Hulk's back and its glowing red eye in the front.

Players can destroy a Hulk with a single use of the Orbital Railcannon Strike or Orbital Laser. They can also use an EMS ability to stun it, and then run to its back and hit the orange spots with any primary weapon. Solo players can keep these abilities in mind so they can complete an Eliminate Automaton Hulk mission quickly.

4 Eradicate Automaton Forces

Defend A Small Map Against Waves Of Enemies

automaton tanks helldivers 2
  • Available on Level 5–9 Missions
  • Complete by destroying a set number of Automatons

Eradicate Automaton Forces missions are done on a very small map, where players must stand their ground against waves of incoming Automatons. Most of the time, the map is a fortress on top of a hill, which makes it easier to defend using Emplacement Strategems like the Autocannon Sentry and Tesla Tower.

Solo players can make up for their lack of fellow Helldivers by using Emplacements to guard one side of the fortress while they cover the opposite side of the hill. When doing this mission type on a map other than the fortress, it is significantly harder to complete solo. However, using the right set of defensive Strategems and Emplacements, a solo player can still defeat the required number of enemies and win the day for Super Earth.

3 Eliminate The Bile Titan

Take Out The Biggest Terminid Of Them All

Shooting a Bile Titan in Helldivers 2
  • Level 4 mission
  • Complete by finding and killing the Bile Titan

Bile Titans are huge, deadly Terminids. They are covered in thick armor, except for their green underbelly, and they can kill players very quickly by spewing acidic bile at them from a distance. Players who get too close can also be killed if a Bile Titan steps on them. These dangerous enemies do not start spawning in missions until level 4, so newer players don't have to worry about them until they are ready.

Killing a Bile Titan quickly is a matter of bringing the right Strategem to this mission. Using an Orbital Railcannon Strike, Orbital Laser, or even a few shots from Eagle Rocket Pods can bring down a BIle Titan. Players can also use Autocannon and Rocket Sentries to do the same. Eliminate the Bile Titan missions are great for players to practice ways to bring these giant bugs down in order to be ready for the highest difficulty missions.

2 Eradicate Terminid Swarm

Kill A Certain Number Of Bugs

Fighting a Terminid swarm in Helldivers 2
  • Available on Level 4–9 Missions
  • Complete by killing a set number of Terminids

In general, Terminids are easier to kill than Automatons because they have fewer ranged attacks. This makes this mission type easier than its matching Automaton mission objective, especially for solo players. The broad range of difficulty levels that players can choose from make Eradicate Terminid Swarm missions another great mission type for more advanced solo players who don't want to stay on the lowest difficulty missions.

The Gatling Sentry, Orbital Laser, and fire attacks like Napalm Airstrike make short work of most Terminids and allow the player to mop up the ones left standing. By staying on the move while keeping up the attack, solo players can easily win against the Terminid swarm.

1 Blitz: Search And Destroy

A Quick Mission Where Players Just Need To Destroy Enemy Spawn Points

An Automaton Bot Fabricator in Helldivers 2
  • Available on Level 4–9 Missions
  • Complete by destroying a set number of Bug Holes or Bot Fabricators

Blitz: Search and Destroy missions can be frantic for solo players, but they are available on so many different difficulty levels that players will become familiar with them quickly. Players have 12 minutes to find and destroy a set amount of enemy spawn points and then extract. Using a loadout that can easily handle closing Bug Holes or taking out Fabricators is key to completing this mission as a solo player.

Because of the quick mission timer, players need to avoid getting bogged down in extended firefights, so playing without a squad can actually be an advantage. Players can use light armor to sneak past patrols, destroy the spawn points, and keep moving to the next one. As solo players level up, they can continue doing this mission type for the entirety of the game's difficulty curve.
