Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 was officially unveiled at The Game Awards 2019, but since then developers at Ninja Theory have remained quite tight-lipped about the continuation of Senua's story until now.

Ninja Theory recently took to its official Twitter account ahead of E3 2021 to show off some impressive footage of weather effects in Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2. This brief video shows a visual upgrade to the sequel's weather effects compared to the original Hellblade title, which released back in 2017.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 is one of the most anticipated Xbox Series X titles out there, but Xbox fans don't yet know when the sequel will release. It looks like Ninja Theory is utilizing the power of the Xbox Series X with the weather effects in Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 judging from the recent video. The video shows a vast landscape from the confines of a large fort as wispy clouds join with each other to form larger clouds that block out the sun's light.

While the footage shown by Ninja Theory reveals a rather stationary fortress in Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, the weather effects show just how alive the skybox of this sequel is. Ninja Theory is apparently utilizing the power of flow maps in order to produce these realistic weather effects for Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 and this is how the clouds form and dissolve naturally.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is a rather dark game both visually and metaphorically and it looks like Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 will follow a dark aesthetic at least. According to the recent Ninja Theory footage, the sky has a light brown hew to it even in daylight. As the sunlight peaks through the clouds in this video, it illuminates the landscape fittingly with the exception of the darkened fort it was captured from.

While some Ninja Theory doubters responded to the weather effects video to mock the team for how long it took them to produce more footage of Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, others expressed their appreciation for the improved visuals. With how realistic Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 looked at The Game Awards 2019, it looks like Ninja Theory is working to make the weather effects as realistic as the character models.

E3 2021 is just around the corner and Ninja Theory may join the showcase to show off more Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 content, but this brief video of the weather effects gives fans an idea of what to expect from the next-gen title. Ninja Theory was careful to make sure that the environment around Senua in the weather effects clip was blacked out, but the emphasized sky shows how lively it is within seconds.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 is in development.
