Ninja Theory confirms that Photo Mode will be making its return in Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 and shows off how powerful the tool can be through four images captured using it. It's been a long road for Ninja Theory's upcoming title, as Hellblade 2 was originally shown off as the first Xbox Series X title back in 2019 at The Game Awards. Five years later, the game is finally approaching its launch date as it continues to peel back the curtain on new features.

One of the bigger focuses for Hellblade 2, outside of the improved visuals, appears to be the game's approach to combat. Ninja Theory has discussed some of the changes, taking a more cinematic approach to fights, flowing naturally from a cutscene back to gameplay. Ninja Theory has also teased a "unique feature" to the various combat encounters, though it did not elaborate as to what this means for players. Alongside the visuals and combat, Ninja Theory recently confirmed the return of a fan favorite feature when the game launches in May.

Hellblade 2 Takes the Next Logical Step in Senua's Character Arc

The first Hellblade saw Senua fearing herself and her hallucinations, but the sequel promises exciting new growth for the character.

Fans of the original Hellblade will be happy to note that Photo Mode is making its return to Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2. In the original game, Photo Mode was a popular feature for many fans, bringing various filters, settings, and other tools to allow players to capture moments from the story while adding their own personal spin to it. Considering how surreal Senua's journey can become, thanks in large part to the Hellblade franchise's take on Psychosis, players will no doubt have plenty of opportunities to capture some breathtaking and unique shots.

Hellblade 2 Photo Mode Captures Impressive Levels of Detail

Alongside the announcement, Ninja Theory showed off what the Photo Mode is capable of through 4 captured screenshots from the game. The still shots showcase the extreme details and visual clarity that Ninja Theory has been able to add to Hellblade 2 thanks to Unreal Engine 5, including subtle touches like the dirt and sweat on Senua's skin. In another shot, the camera is tight on Senua's face to the extent that players can see all the imperfections on her skin, the pores, and even the veins in her eye as she looks back at some sort of monster looming behind her. Again, the level of detail in these shots is very impressive and has already clearly inspired some individuals in the comments section.

While PC and Xbox Series X/S players are no doubt anticipating the game's upcoming May release, PlayStation fans may be holding out hope as well. With Microsoft recently confirming some first-party titles going multiplatform, rumors have begun circulating that Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 could be launching on PS5 at some point. While nothing is official or seemingly imminent, it doesn't seem to be unthinkable that Hellblade 2 could be launching on Sony's rival platform at some point down the road, perhaps first giving PC and Xbox players a bit of timed exclusivity first.
